I just heard Cam dub himself as a climber.

That ain't right is it? The guy's more of a TT'ist

TdF would have relegated Gripel if his name was Renshaw for that kind of headbutting...

Was that Cavendish flying up the left side?

Quite a lot of good points for the sprinter's teams in this race:

1) Sky showed that they actually can put a functioning train together, and Swift, a sprinter who wasn't expected to compete with the very best, has shown he can win against a good field.

2) Matthews came good for Rabobank.

3) Goss showed that he can win at a high level for HTC, which is important now that they've lost their number 2 sprinter from last year.

4) McEwen has shown Radioshack that he still has the legs to compete.

5) Garmin, surprisingly, showed pretty much nothing as far as sprinting is concerned, but they still go home with a stage win and the overall.

Even Greipel will leave with the knowledge that he can hang with the second tier sprinters at a time of the season when he's presumably completely out of shape.

A lot of people think that when his track career is over he'll develop into a stage race rider. A Mick Rogers type is a possibility I reckon.

I thought it was JJ Haedo doing the head butting. Plenty of aggro going into that final corner!

He hasn't shown any outstanding climbing talent though, has he? Not in Europe at least.

That's only the second ProTour stage race Garmin have ever won. The first being Dan Martin's win in the Tour of Poland last year.

If I were to categorize him then I would perhaps put him as the same type of rider as Thomas Löfkvist. Löfkvist is of course still a few years older and more experienced so I'm not talking ability but rather rider type.

No, not over any significant climbs at least. It's more based on the numbers he puts up, and the theory that when he eventually goes to the road full-time he'll make leaps in progress. There are a fair number of people in the Aussie set-up that think he's head and shoulders above Bobridge and the current crop of Australians.

Personally I have no idea, I just know he's pretty darn impressive on the track.

Closer to Rogers I'd say, obviously he will never win a Worlds TT but he's should be a top10 TT'er. Certainly not a climber in our definition (maybe compared to the field of the TdU...).

His biggest asset is the ability to recover well from repeated efforts, as seen in most of his track races (or the Giro break he was in). Could develop into a very good attacking rider.

It was actually Haedo doing all the headbutting. And yes I'm pretty sure that was Cav going up the inside that copped the next lot of headbutting.

Could HTC have ballsed that stage up anymore if they tried? All went pear shaped after the first sprint.

Rann wetting his pants over Lance Armstrong and thanking him for turning up to the event right now. This is getting rather cringeworthy, I might go for a swim now.

The reason I don't say Rogers is because Rogers is very heavy for a climber at 75Kg while Meyer and Löfkvist both weigh in at 70Kg which is a little more viable for steady pace climbing. Meyer is perhaps even more of a TTer than Löfkvist is but more importantly I think his weight makes it likely that he will have an easier time as a climber than Rogers.

Perhaps they shouldn't have the expert sidekick do the play by play but instead a rapid mouthed experienced announcer.

What was more annoying was the post race commentary regarding Lance. I popped in and out of the broadcast so I didn't listen to all of it but they didn't address the accusations at all and just sold the line.

Didn't Cameron Meyer star as the little kid in The Sixth Sense, alongside Bruce Willis?

I'm pretty sure Matthew Goss co-starred alongside Hugh Jackman as Wolverine's brother in the recent Wolverine: Origins.
