Commentators just said that Menchov has some trouble with allergies again
That's the excuse of the year!

Once again the ITT has basically culled the possible GC winners down to next to nothing.
I can't see the final 2 stages offering up more than a handful of seconds.

ACF has another hero to cheer and get all misty eyed over.

So what you are saying, if I am correct, is that Richie Porte is the new Bernard Hinault?

WTF?! Porte wins a tt! I am utterly bamboozled! This was where cadel won a time trial in and it may be where porte kicks his great and illustrious career off like evans!

sky's top finisher was 90th, safely inside the top 100! great ride

Sky have been sucking badly lately! they need wigans in there to give 'em a kick up the back side!

just a bit more info on Richie

Richie is 25, hails from Tassie and 4 years ago made the transition from Triathete to Road Racer so in some ways he is a later bloomer - but WOW what a start :D

According to Norwegian press he has been pulled by his team as a reaction to his "two fingers" yesterday. He is supposedly given a fine by the UCI as well.

HTC says they will give the victory money from the race to the "Right to Play"-foundation.

For those who read norwegian:

To much fuss about nothing if you ask me.:p

Also, Cavendish wouldn't do anything relevant the next stages... Good PR.

It's a great result for him. But taking a minute in 15 k on all those strong TT-ers with all circumstances being the same... not very likely. He even acknowledges it himself. .....

I wonder about suggestions that he was favoured by wind or some other factor. Here is a challenge for the statisticians on the forum. I compared the finishing times of those riders starting within 10 places before or after Porte. I could see no pattern whatsoever (sorry the spreadsheets are a bit messy to attempt to load into this post) which would suggest Porte's time slot was favoured by any discernible factor - that is other than Porte himself who was an absolute standout.

[Mind you I could not readily find a split time list which might be more revealing.]

Porte beat malori in the baby giro by 0.01 of a second.

He has said he did a lot of tt'ing with lancaster when he was living with him.

Exactly. If the last stage was flat like last year there would be no way in hell they'd pull him.

So you've managed to bring your man into a totally unrelated thread. Your fawning is insufferable.

The Saxo homepage says Porte weighs 62 kg. That surprised me. I thought he would be more like 70-75. He should have the ability to become a good climber, then.

Porte is quite a small guy, not absolutely sure but I guess around 170cm or something like that.

And yeah he can climb, have a look at the races hes won in Aus, rarely flat.
