Richie is 25, hails from Tassie and 4 years ago made the transition from Triathete to Road Racer so in some ways he is a later bloomer - but WOW what a start

According to Norwegian press he has been pulled by his team as a reaction to his "two fingers" yesterday. He is supposedly given a fine by the UCI as well.

HTC says they will give the victory money from the race to the "Right to Play"-foundation.

It's a great result for him. But taking a minute in 15 k on all those strong TT-ers with all circumstances being the same... not very likely. He even acknowledges it himself. .....

I wonder about suggestions that he was favoured by wind or some other factor. Here is a challenge for the statisticians on the forum. I compared the finishing times of those riders starting within 10 places before or after Porte. I could see no pattern whatsoever (sorry the spreadsheets are a bit messy to attempt to load into this post) which would suggest Porte's time slot was favoured by any discernible factor - that is other than Porte himself who was an absolute standout.

[Mind you I could not readily find a split time list which might be more revealing.]

The Saxo homepage says Porte weighs 62 kg. That surprised me. I thought he would be more like 70-75. He should have the ability to become a good climber, then.

Porte is quite a small guy, not absolutely sure but I guess around 170cm or something like that.

And yeah he can climb, have a look at the races hes won in Aus, rarely flat.
