if my job forced me to go to China's Tian An Men square, I would protest instead of work. some things in life are bigger than the sport

The thing is, most Western governments are just as bad.

If UCI had any interest in the riders health, they would not organize this joke.

It's a very well known fact that the few people who run the UCI do not act in the best interests of professional cycling, widely speaking. That the teams continue to appease them shows how weak they are.

Bleh - A race in China would be better off in the Guilin/Yunnan areas. The air quality is passable and some of the scenery is off the charts.

Beijing is just terrible for air pollution, even compared to other chinese cities.

The level of air pollution is currently extremely high, apparently there's a chance the entire race will be cancelled.

there has to be some banned chemical substances in there. the UCI is so hypocritical, there whole basis for not allowing EPO, blood transfusions, synthetic testosterone, etc, is the riders health (it certainly isn't to make the races more exciting) and the message it sends to young riders and their long term health, yet they are so willing to subject them to this? let them juice to the gills if you are gonna make them race in this smog.

I'm a proud Chinese and I'm all for China being involved in pro cycling to some degree. But I still say cancel this crap. Beijing is the LAST place in China you'd want to race bikes. The Chinese government has total disregard for the health of their citizens and future generations. They are just as bad as when they were officially communists. Now they call themselves "socialists", this makes what they are doing even more evil.

The riders should protest in racing in this kind of air quality, like what they always do when they are being asked to race on dangerous roads.

I think Haussler, Petacchi and Davis/ Kroupis will win the sprints.

EBH, Samu, Clarke, Costa, Slagter and Hesjedal (not Martin as Ryder worked for him all Lombardia but then he got dropped ) look to be the GC contenders.

The stages look better than last years' which is good.
