This is great! Enjoying a Gonzo Imperial Porter and watching The Tour of California. ToC live on Norwegian tv for the first time. First time I'm seeing ToC.

Yeah, a very civilised time to have a bike race on tv, eh? ;):)

Actually, I was just as distressed as the racers yesterday. A couple snow flakes landed in my coffee and later on while brockway summit was dry, there was no heated seating area for the fans and we were forced to sit on the edge of the dry roads close to the wettish shoulders. This would never happen in europe. Could you imagine? The riders getting wet and cold and maybe even a little dirty in a race. Imagine what the giro organizer would think of such absurdity. And no doubt moving the race this morning was a good decision, the fact that riders could see snow in the distance on the mountain tops just creates an untenable safety issue.

To be fair though the high mountains can be very dangerous when it storms. If the peloton would have gotten snowed in on Donner Summit they may have had to eat the weaker ones in order to survive.

maybe you should put on an old tape of stage 4 from 2008 - a stage many riders said was one of the hardest and most brutal days on a bike. 7 hours in freezing temperatures, driving rain, and 70km/hr winds.

ITV have made up for Widget.
Studio dude made a crack about the peloton having the tough task of negotiate a single corner, so far in the race.
Reminds me of one of "those " Vuelta stages, only a bit greener.

That was Mancebo's win, right?
Stage 1, 2009 and the great race radio blowout?
I'm probably wrong. Time blurs when you get to my age.

But I am a local and I wanted to slap him.

Major slaps needed for those two. They have already mentioned "he who shall not be named" 5 times in 15 minutes. Going to be a long week - thank god for mute buttons.

If it is one of the biggest stage races then why aren't all the big teams coming to ride?
Cos it ain't the TDU, silly.
Struggling to go World Tour, because unlike Oz, the US have a load of small pro cycling teams who they don't want to boot out to make room.

Wow. ITV have a studio for this.

BTW, as i probably wont watch this, could people please mention every time Phil and Paul say some crap about how this is the second biggest race on the planet.

Cheers.

You bring up a very serious issue. We all know this happens all too frequently at donner lake to discount it. I believe they in fact avoided discussing the all too likely possibility of the riders digressing to cannibalism in an effort to be sensitive to the more innocent viewers. Not to mention the fact that the euros already think we are barabarians, the last thing we want to do is give them any more evidence. I am sure we all heard the rumours that Cavendish opted out the easier TOC for the hilly Giro when he heard about the donner pass stage. He knew he would be a top choice for the menu considering his pudginess lately. The pressure these riders deal with is just hard to imagine.

so we have it on Eurosport with their c-squad, Phil & Paul on Versus and additional live coverage on itv? Fot the Tour of California?!

That just reminds me of the many classy races I had to watch in danish or other "strange" langauges...

It seems crazy watching a race on such massively wide roads after all the spring races.

I'm a bit baffled by ITV4's coverage of this rather than the Giro, although it is on at a very convenient time for minor broadcasters. An hour of nearly free live sport at 11pm is very handy for a small channel. Even better if English language commentary comes with the pictures from their point of view.

Really we live in a golden age of Anglophone cycling coverage, mostly thanks to Eurosport. God knows we all complain about their ever shifting timetables and erratic advertising breaks, but they give us hours upon hours of coverage.

BJM about to get caught. I hope we see some more attacks from the domestic teams, they're wasting their time if they try to go head-to-head with Garmin and HTC in the sprint.
