I've seen the video from the climb yesterday, I know how he looks when he's on top form, and let me tell you: he is far from that.

If he is easily beating Cancellara, EBH and Pinotti in a tt then I think he would have to have some good form.

He could yet be too close, though. You've gotta admit it's kinda weird when Gesink beats the likes of EBH and Cancellara, who are trying to peak for the cobbled classics and should in theory be much closer to top shape than Gesink.

Gesink is obviously also riding on a lot of determination which goes a long way in a race like this. Very well done by him.

Come on dude, Gesink is by far the best climber in this race, the TT included two tough hills, and he had a point to prove.

Gesink can, in fact, time trial.

Even Ryo was surprised and he knows everything lol..

To the people saying Gesink's season is effectively finished:

Nibali went all the way to Argentina last season and went all out to win the Tour of San Luis last year. He ended up doing rather well across the season I thought.

It would be interesting to see a mountain TT again in the Tour next year. Could probably suit Gesink pretty well.

Granted this course was better for Gesink than a lot of other potential ITT courses. But still this is a huge surprise to me, he absolutely destroyed his competition (a.o. a multi-WC champ and the Italian Champ).

I'm not at all implying anything regarding Gesinks performance, just pondered my own first reactions to the result... I have no reason to believe Bobby G has done anything immoral.

Courses where you get to ride your road bike should be encouraged.. So hopefully Tour organisers are taking note and maybe learn something.

Climbers and testers all in the mix in one race.. very nice.

Also it's a sign that he might want to work on his TT position, in a similar situation last year but on a TT bike he lost a minute to Frank Schleck, this time he gained time on Cancellara. I guess he's always had the strength to go well in TTs, but a horrible position?

It doesn't seem like Phinney can handle the more hilly TTs that well at this stage of his career.

Obviously he won in Geelong, but didn't seem to dominate.

Yay for Bobby G, I knew he could do it. Hopefully the "Gesink can't TT" debate is now limited to "Gesink sucks in a 40km long flat TT".

I just saw stage 4. Was woth the wait.

And it seems Gesink won stage 5 as well. Chapeau to Bobby. Also Visconti who i always rated.

I guess we will see another top 5 by EBH tomorrow, continuing his "top 5 every single day but no win"- streak.

A feat he accomplished in 6 of the 8 eneco stages as i recall.
