Preview at https://cyclinguptodate.com/cycling...age-1-test-of-fire-for-jonas-vingegaards-form

"It is a small hilltop finish in Karpacz. All about positioning. There is a 2.9-kilometers ascent at 4.5% which gradually becomes more steep up to the intermediate sprint which comes with only 4.5 kilometers to go. Shortly after there is a small ascent and there will be fight into that section and the bottom of the final climb.

The final hilltop is a gradual rise to the line as well, to end in a (possibly long) sprint. It's 3.2 kilometers at 6.5%, most of the climb in big-ring gradients, but in the final kilometer it goes up to 10%. The final 500 meters are the toughest and we may see small gaps at the finish."

Apart from last year's winner Mohoric, we have a interesting startlist with Bilbao, Gregoire, Nys, Bardet, UAE's Wellens & Majka (both former winners of Tour of Poland) plus some decent sprinters, Merlier, Ewan, Kooij, Meeus, Bauhus and surprisingly not doing the Tour of Denmark, Big Mads Pedersen. Of course everyone will be focusing on Pedersen's compatriot and neighbour, Vingegaard. Will Vingegaard have nasty nighttime flashbacks to 2019 and his previous start in Poland?

Not forgetting that there's a time bonus at every sprint!
Rule 8.2. For the first, second and third place at each LOTTO SPRINT, time bonuses will be awarded: 3 seconds, 2 seconds and 1 second respectively.

Edit add- yep, I saw that Mohoric won at Karpacz last year but it was a different start town. The last 5km profile on PCS for last year does seems harder then today's.

Well it does seem an odd move as there are more sprinters in Poland then at "the Poland" (i.e. the Vuelta). Denmark would maybe have been a better choice for Ewan.

Its strange for two reasons. Ewan has been on the PCS startlist since the beginning of the year, and more importantly in post race interviews after two wins in Spain in the last two weeks, he stated he was riding the Vuelta. Anyway, he'll need to show a lot more to win a stage in Poland.
