Because Groenewegen is just 10 times faster. For some reason people underestimate his raw speed. Apparently a lot of people in the peloton today too because they were all just riding for him.

Yes both Jumbo and UAE riders going to the Tour will not have the ideal preparations with Covid dropouts.

If I'm Pogacar I'm hoping for covid from a logical standpoint. If you are getting it now the chances of getting a positive in the Tour are much much lower. That's of course with a mild covid sickness that I think almost all people now get with the new variant. Vlasov tested positive and was extremely strong yesterday, so I don't think you have to even stop training at home. Depending on the country you are in you can even get out of isolation after a few days.

It would be sad for the Tour of Slovenia fans but that is where we are with this situation. On the other hand the Tour has to develop a concept that is more like the 2020 version of the Tour if they want to have the best riders in the race until the end.
