Lopez lost the overall due to his inattentiveness.
He looked strong, but he decided to continue with the remaining domestiques and peloton.
When he wanted to react it was too late.

Grosstchartner or TAO will win this.
We'll see if TAO maintains his level on the mountain stage. He's been struggling since his accident.

What was he playing at, would've won even without the deviation. It was marginal but he gave the referees a decision to make.

This is what you get, now you'll see riders waving their arm about all the time when they know they're about to lose. Imagine Cavendish had been relegated on Stage 14 of the Tour 2016, we're actually reaching that level now.

These are the relegations that happen in smaller races, but not always in races like TDF.
It's easier to make these decisions in these races.

Yeah that was a *** decision, there was plenty of room, it was just the reaction of Christen that made it look worse than it is. Literally in any big race sprint there are much worse deviation at any second, so by their criteria almost everyone would be disqualified. And that's not even counting all the headbutting and elbow stuff. I am quite saddened by this decision, Rui was a worthy winner and literally his first professional win after so many years of working for others.

And like you said, this would never be decided in a big race like the Tour, because people would be there with pitchforks. But they can bully riders in smaller races.

Christen should win an Oscar for that. But, just like in football, it works.

The joy in in the journey, not the results. Think of it like a movie when they show the end first, the it says "one week earlier", and there are a lot of movies like that nowadays.
