Omerzel looked good. Let's see what he's got in the bag for the future.
Yeah, him being only 19 it's always fun to follow how young riders develop. Hopefully it'll be an upward trajectory for Omrzel!

---

Completely unrelated and from the left field and going back to my new fave Slovenian word Volovljek, turns out it translates into ox mountain (vol means ox). Wiki says there's a prevalence of surnames and geographical names in Slovenia that are derived from words related to oxen, highlighting their significance in the region's history and culture.

You learn something new every day! :)

So mountain for bulls without their... ;)

Tzarenko is a capable rouleur with a decent sprint, but his climbing is indeed surprising. That said, having another strong rouleur who is a capable climber with him (Zoccarato) probably helped a bit, since they both arrived before the gc group.
He has not a decent sprint. He is not slow, but not capable to win sprints from 10-15 men group. He is good at hilly and MM terrains, but making gains in high mountains as well. Tsarenko is progressing every year.

I mean decent sprint from a reduced group in one of the Italian Autumn one day races, probably should have phrased it better. Meanwhile the war and his father getting conscripted early on (+ having to get his mother and younger sister to Italy) seems to have done a number (mentally) on Ponomar.

Managed to watch the replay of the stage. Proper hard mountain at the end, especially in those temperatures. And they left it surprisingly late for the GC action. Really happy about the winner Tsarenko, he might go places in the future. Also a very good stage for the whole of UnoX squad, especially for Johannessen and one of the Julset brothers, given than they both crashed not long before the climb.

Fun day. 3-0 yesterday against Italy and what feels like a controlled 2-0 win against UAE and Lidl today. Trying to defend ourselves as well as Ajer and co now🙌

And some words from the winner:

Victory for Kyrylo Tsarenko on the queen stage of the Tour of Slovenia! 🏆🇸🇮
The Ukrainian was one of the day’s stars, joining the breakaway and managing his effort perfectly ahead of the brutal final climb to Golte: 13.8 km at a 7.4% average gradient. 🙌🏻

In the final kilometers, Tsarenko’s relentless push shrinks the lead group to just two riders, and with 4 km to go, Kyrylo accelerates, breaks away from his companion, and rides solo to an extraordinary victory! 🔥
💬 “What a feeling! Until the last 500 meters I didn’t think I could make it. We hit the climb with just under 4 minutes on the bunch. In the last 5 km it was just me and Zoccarato left, and I realized I had to try. I attacked, hoping they wouldn’t catch me — and I made it!”

An some words from UnoX

GC LEAD FOR ANDERS – SO DESERVED! 🤩
Anders Halland Johannessen delivered a brilliant ride on the brutal Golte climb – dropping all GC rivals with an attack 2 km from the top. Only two riders from the early break stayed ahead on Stage 4 of the Tour of Slovenia 🇸🇮
Anders is now really showing the level we’ve always known he has – but which he’s been held back from displaying due to a long run of injuries. SO well deserved, Anders! 👏

He now leads the GC with 16 seconds down to Großschartner and 19 to Geoghegan Hart – while teammate Johannes Kulset climbs to 6th overall after a very strong 5th place, despite crashing earlier in the stage.
Big ride. Big day. One more to go 💛❤️
