Does Acevedo move up to podium place?? Think so.

He most certainly does, 3rd. That was an impressive move from him. Just emerged out of nowhere and went right past Mancebo and Danielson.

yes he does. it shows that for any smaller team to take a good colombian is way better than anything else you can do. acevedo is taking so many poiints for himself and jamis. hope to se ehim in wt next year

Genuinely fun race. Pity about the coverage.

Just how far back was Acevedo when he went over the top of the climb? Does he always descend like an absolute nutcase?

he's a great descender. really great, but he was porbbaly quite a bit ahead of horner group as well over the climb

There was a shot at the climb where you could see a rider behind Danielson, when he wasnt picking up escapees anymore (at the time Mancebo was comming back to Matthews). That must have been Acevedo, he was about 30-50 meters behind Danielson there, must have been some more at the top obviously, probably around 30-40 seconds at the top.

I don't see why not. Judging by the American stage races, he seems to be at a roughly similar level this year to Phil Deignan (ie in form Deignan, not the missing in action Deignan of the previous couple of years). And Deignan has been signed by Sky. Acevedo looks like he'd be a useful addition to any team.

I don't think it's done yet with Sky. Andrew McQuaid said he's in negotiations with a couple of teams at the moment but he will be a great addition for anyone. Hopefully he will be at the Worlds this year as he would be a big help for Dan Martin's chances. Certainly this is his best form since 2009 Vuelta.

Unless they are using some insane qualification system again, I don't see how the team could be anything other than Martin, Roche, Deignan. It's already hard enough to do well with a tiny team without them doing something nuts like putting a non-climber in as the second domestique. Brammeier is the only other rider who has the requisite level, and he won't be able to deal with the terrain as well as Deignan. If it isn't Sky, it'll be Garmin or someone else.

I hadn't realised that the Sky deal isn't final. In any case, it seems hard to believe he won't be back in the WT next year, given how good he's been in the US stage races.

Heroic ride by Tommy D, especially on stage 5. I'm really happy it paid off to him by his first GC overall win during his career (if I'm not mistaken)!

It's a shame he was sent to Giro in order to help Hesjedal, because it compromised his season quite a bit. A season that has been strong until that point, including 10th place in Catalunya and 4th in Romandie (his best ever result in a WT race).

Yeah, good to see the old dog get a GC win, like CVV at Colorado last year. And he did it with some style.

It's hard to see him getting the opportunity to lead at many bigger races now though, given his age and give that one of Martin, Hesjedal and Talansky will likely be riding any important race Danielson could do well at.

Ireland will be allowed to line up four riders, so even if someone wants to have Brammeier in there it should be no problem

I don't think Danielson will be Garmin's leader anymore. Maybe he will get the lead in some American races and a free role here and there in some WT races, but he is no more one of the top 2 or 3 GC riders in the team.
This season was evidence of that. His season was compromised just because someone in the team decided it would be nice to have more climbing power to support Hesjedal in Giro.

And it's all justified. There are at least 3 climbers with more potential already in the team. (Hesjedal, Talansky and Martin) It will be also interesting to see how will riders like Stetina, Howes, Morton, Dennis and Slagter (joining for next year) develop (I don't know if Lasse Normann Hansen and Van Baarle can climb). Garmin was more like a sprinting team in recent past (and a cobble-classic team in 2011) but it's becoming a typical GC climbing team. Some mountain domestiques will be needed and that's the role in what Danielson may be very usefull. I wish him to get some chance to ride for himself but I don't think he will be prepared as a primary leader for biggest races anymore.

He did win the Tour de Georgia. And Langkawi.
