Tejay has arrived.
Guy isn't even good enough to be a super domestique at this point, he's basically just a very ordinary rider which tends to crack when it gets really tough. Can do great in time trials, but its ages since I have seen him do really well in the mountains - his motor suddenly just stops and he just cracks.

Well to be honest he was pretty good in Tour of California earlier in the season.
He was decent on the climbs, but nothing more. But those performances in the mountains are his best this year. He basically had a completely free role in TdF and couldn't really do jackshit.

Kuss has been very impressive today. Tomorrow is the Empire Pass climb.

I think that climb is harder than Snowbird. Steeper pitches for sure.
Guardsman Pass from that side is probably the hardest climb in Utah, right?

Hope someone can answer that. I have no idea, but they were saying Empire is harder than Snowbird. I've been in Utah once and that was a family vacation when I was in high school a bit over 20 years ago.

Probably the hardest in this part of the state. I think Empire is significantly harder than Snowbird. It hits 20% coming up that side. There are hard climbs all over the place in Utah, but this is a particularly good one because it's right next to Park City.

He won a Giro stage last year, so I wouldn't call him a very ordinary rider. It's not like he beat some nobody that day.

He's just terribly inconsistent and even on his best days he's not good enough to be a leader for a WT team.

There's probably something wrong with the way he trains and his diet as well, as he did show potential early on in his career. Could also be a motivational problem or not being able to cope with stress or pain.

Jumbo's TDF team for 2019/2020 is looking really good

The ghost of “rabofail” has surely been laid to rest this year. It really does look as if they can put together a climbing support squad that can compete with Sky on a fraction of the budget. Of course, they don’t have the same depth and would have to be willing to bet everything on the Tour in terms of rider priorities.

Powless is very talented as well, in the future I can see him being a rider in the Kwiatowski mold, good at time-trials, good enough on the climbs and in sprints. He may not be as talented a rider as McNulty, but with the right development (he's so young) he should be a presence in the Ardennes and GT's for years to come (that includes a GC tilt on a friendly route).

Is Kuss going to ride the Vuelta after this race?

Good question. He's not on the list to race Colorado like Powless is, so it's possible he could be going to la Vuelta. I agree with you that with the right development he could be a threat in some of the hilly one day races and maybe go for GC in some of the 1 week races. Not sure about GTs, but he is very talented and still very young.

According to PCS they're both riding in colorado, basically the whole Lotto NL team that's currently in Utah. It makes sense too, they're already there and Colorado is just a few days away.

Thanks for the response! I was hoping Kuss could ride at least a bit of the Vuelta so he could be a good help next year for the Giro for whoever their leader is (apparently Bennet will ride the TDF, so probably one of Roglic or Kruisjwijk), but maybe not burning him out will help and with Battaglin (and one of Gesink or Tolhoek) they should also have another experienced support rider.

Gotta say that Kuss has jumped out of the ground considering his form this year and taking into account his role in other races - Still one stage to go but Haig has been disappointing and should be doing better.

Yes, last year, but he has taken yet another step back this year. He has been very disappointing. Last year he actually did well in the Giro grabbed a 10th as far as I remember in the Vuelta - thats very respectable.

Kuss is doing Colorado, but he can still ride the Giro. Will he be a bit burnout after these two races or you guys actually thing he will be going? I mean he isn't that young so he should be starting to do GT's now, problem is he have peaked 3 weeks before La Vuelta, so he won't be as good or fresh.

So Kuss won by a long way without having a drink for 8 km? Chapeau!
This was the first time during a summer race in N.Mexico,NM , California,Utah or Colorado that nobody on the road, up the climb had water for drinking and dumping..
Kuss really looks like he riding with friends and family up these climbs!! He was hot and parched but didn't show it!!!
He is going to have red meat tied to his back today.. I don't see him cracking but every team is going to be bombing today!!
Weather to possibly be a degree or two cooler than yesterday..
A great race, Kuss really racing fantastic w and wo water..
