Yes, but that was because they hadn't been credited with that lap gain earlier on like they should have been, which was why they protested afterwards. But as I wrote yesterday, the Germans should have received bronze medals, too, due to this mistake.
The commentator on Flobike seemed to be saying that they were credited with the lap at the very end like I thought I saw, but he may just have been guessing. If they really left out a lap gain earlier that's a pretty egregious error for a WC race. Go UCI!

Once again, Michael Rasmussen says it like it is:

"According to Michael Rasmussen, however, the closure of the [Danish] mountain bike national team is linked to the fact that the DCU does not want to tamper with track cycling, as, in his own words, it guarantees easy medals:

- It has always been a federation that has prioritised track cycling enormously, because it has been a sure source of medals. Most recently, they won some down in Chile. But you have to remember that track cycling is probably the easiest discipline to win medals in, because there are few nations that actually give it 100%." (Feltet.dk)

And the Germans would have raced differently if they knew Denmark gained a lap or were close to them in the standings.
Germany got robbed a medal.
