so what's specifically wrong with Friel?
There is nothing wrong Friel. He and others continue to tell people how to get fit and the real question and answer is how to get fast. The original question came from a guy from Brasil that says crits are the grunch of what is offered. Ask yourself a few questions. Are you fit?(low body fat, good sleep and work habits, good mechanics on the bike.proper fit no stress/injury related aliments). If you have all the needed componenets you will also need training, recovery time. And then after you have all that you need disposable income. OK everything is in place..you need a car,van or motorcycle and start motor pacing. If you are learning it can be a big, serious crash waiting to happen but it is a proven method. Have a long stretch of road, pace behind the car at 25-28mph..ride in the drops and get the confidence to not tap your brakes. after staying in the slipstream of the pace vehilce swing out into the wind, without getting out of the saddle maintain the same speed for 60 to 90 seconds repeat until you get dropped 4 or 5 times. Continue this until you can ride in the wind for for 2 to 3 minutes. Amazed is how you will feel w the increases in your speed. After you get this learn to jump ahead of the car for the same amount of time and reurn to the draft. Motor pacing is not the only way but it is the simplest, proven, cheapest, fatsest way..but comapred to indoor and warm ,fuzzy technical approaches it is very dangerous.99% of all pros on the road and track motorpace. All people that consitently win crits MP. Joe Friel is fine..but if you want fast..he doesn't specialize in that
