Maybe with Mestre AG2R are planning to the Volta a Portugal. Actually Lampre would have been a good fit for him as Lampre always do the Volta (IIRC Lampre has a huge demographic in Portugal, or one of their subsidiaries do, just going off what Libertine said) and could lead the team there with the view of doing the Vuelta after wards.
Assuming the Volta will still be around though.
Lampre indeed have a subsidiary based in Portugal, hence why they always want to put on a decent show at the Volta. I'd be happy with AG2R going as it might bring some of the French teams back (Saur and Bbox did the 2010 race but only La Pomme Marseillaise this time around)

I agree be better ans having Sammy they would get the tour invite.
Vuelta no problems unless ETA goes mad
Giro if they wanted to send a strong team.
Hilly classics no problems and miss all the cobbles be a much better option for them
Signs have been relatively good on the ETA front recently it seems.

The Tour invitation for a non-French pro-continental team might be a problem even with Samu. Geox 2011 had Menchov + Sastre but Prudhomme chose Saur...
If they're really talking about an MTF in Zuberoa at Pierre St-Martin then not inviting the Euskaltel lineup would be insanity and troublesome.

meh not the best decision for him imo . . .
anyway i highly doubt mestre will ride the volta if he foes for AG2R he can win bigger things
If Ag2r want to do the Volta I don't see why Mestre can't do it. Ride a good early season, build up to support Gadret in Italy, then take some time off and target the Volta.

The contract will be for 2 years.
Good move for him, there will be a fair few .1-rated races in Spain that he'll have a decent chance of winning stages in against weakish sprinting fields, especially those like Asturias when Euskaltel no longer have Koldo Fernández and Movistar will likely have Ventoso and Rojas deployed elsewhere.
