ricardo mestre winner of the 2011 volta a portugal is rumoured to be going to AG2R

may not be a very interesting rumour for some as it doesn't involve neither BMC nor greenedge nor anglo saxon riders but even ACF must admit that the guy has some talent after what he did at the volta( if i recall correctly you were pleasantly surprised by the volta this year ACF :p)

for those who don't know ricardo mestre= good climber that can itt surprisingly well for a guy that weights like 5 kilos. . . (54 or 52 to be honest :p)

source of the rumour is jornalciclismo

Interesting that a Portuguese cyclist would go to a French team, and not a Spanish one.

just some guy said:

I hope this happens (at the rate I'm going, I'm going to be the biggest Jack Bauer fanboy on this forum :D).

Ok, so I'm also a Bauer fanboy...and a kiwi, so that helps. He deserves a great team next year...the guy is a machine on the bike!

That should make for a fun Volta next year:eek: Well, I'm glad he's leaving. I hope this strategy form Ag2r isn't just a "buy them cheap and let them hang out dry".

They need points and riders maybe given more free roles to get points.

AG2R will be very attacking next year, I almost think Roche will not try for overall but stage wins and Team Gardet as well

AG2R might get some points at Bejing. Bauer would be great at GE as he is strong and is an awesome TV character. I thought you liked Beyer ACF and were saying BMC would keep hold of him???

Maybe with Mestre AG2R are planning to the Volta a Portugal. Actually Lampre would have been a good fit for him as Lampre always do the Volta (IIRC Lampre has a huge demographic in Portugal, or one of their subsidiaries do, just going off what Libertine said) and could lead the team there with the view of doing the Vuelta after wards.

Assuming the Volta will still be around though.

Sorry but I really don't understand that either from the rider as for the team.
He is again!!! a sprinter and there a too many sprinters in that team.

I don't know how tehy are gonna make a correct roster and don't forget that J.Dean is probably going there too.

I guess it is only for his points gain but it is totally nonsense.

I'm sorry to say that but this team doesn't belong in the World Tour yet. It has been made only by adding great value riders but not at all as a real team.

Thats a lot of strain to be put under for some of the riders. Sometimes I wonder if they would be happier if being pro-conti.

Or being able to drop out of some WT races, I don't see the point of them having to do E3, G-W, RVV etc.

I agree be better ans having Sammy they would get the tour invite.

Vuelta no problems unless ETA goes mad

Giro if they wanted to send a strong team.

Hilly classics no problems and miss all the cobbles be a much better option for them

Excatly they would get all the invites they would want to race in anyway altough im sure there would be some exceptions. I just think of all the teams currently world tour they would be the least upset about being "relegated"

It's weird though. They're saving a lot of money on Galdeano. Where's that money going? Only 23 riders is just sad.

+1

The only exciting part about the team right now is seeing what Teklehaimanot can manage.

The Tour invitation for a non-French pro-continental team might be a problem even with Samu. Geox 2011 had Menchov + Sastre but Prudhomme chose Saur...
