man its sad to see riis going from the best team in the world to some 1 that can't hire anymore due to lack of funds. . . i know he has contador that is like half of the team money just for him but still . . .

If Euskaltel quits next year Samuel Sanchez will go to the same team as Contador. So if it's still Saxo, Riis has another good climber.

That's a non-statement. It's a standard PR response ("who wouldn't want to ride with him, he's one of the best ever yadda yadda of course I'm not going to say 'no I don't want to ride with him and I hate him'"). Samu also says he'd like to ride the Giro every time someone asks, and yet he never does.

The fact here is Riis has no money, so unless he gets LOTS of it there's no way he's signing Samu while keeping Contador.

If he was in negotiations with EBH and Cancellara, I'm sure he can afford Samuel Sanchez.

Besides, I never said it was a certainty that Contador will still be riding for Riis after 2012.

It is believed that Quintana's basically picking up Soler's contract, pretty much same kind of terms. Soler will be welcome back at Movistar anytime he's willing and able to compete again, though they've said it's likely they would prefer to give him some time back in Colombia with Movistar Continental to get his feel for it back before bringing him back to Europe.

This is the first I've heard that the there were any prospects of his returning to the sport competitively. This is great news!

You still linked that article like it was significant. It isn't.

And how do we know the talks with Cancellara and EBH were anything serious, or even just rumours? If he had that money, don't you think he would have signed someone of note by now? Is he such a genius he knew Geox was going to fold before everyone else?

If Contador is cleared in November, all sponsor problems will disappear along with it. He doesn't need to sign him this year, but next year.

===> QS of 2010 had no money as well. Compare that to QS of 2011 who have the money to buy Tony Martin, Peter Velits, Levi Leipheimer and extend their contracts with Boonen and Sylvain Chavanel(who most be more expensive now than before). Of course the article is significant, if Euskaltel quits next year, chances are big that Samu and Conti will ride in the same team.

EBH has confirmed that Riis offered him a contract, so it was no rumour.

I don't see Sancchez in the same team with Contador unless he give up Tour de France to be superdomestique and be the leader of Grand Tours and week stage races where Contador didn't ride. Maybe in exchange of a big wage as last contract in his career.

Not the case of current Saxo Bank:D

Pff. Samu talks a lot of **** to be honest.

Valverde also said he would like to race on the same team as Contador btw. Dont see it happening either.

What?

Contador would have signed for Movistar last year if they didn't announce their sponsor so late...

Your first point is baseless speculation. Saxo was on the way out and only stayed because of Contador - I don't see them giving Riis much more money regardless of what happens.

Quick Step got more money because they got that Czech guy on board. Now, of course Riis could do something like that too, but right now there's nothing to think that's what's going to happen.

EBH's story has been discussed here already. He ended up renewing with Sky, so I wouldn't rule out the possibility that it was just a tool to pressure Sky into giving him a better contract or better sporting opportunities. The only 100% confirmed fact remains that Saxo isn't signing anyone of note.

And the article is not significant because, as I said, it's just a standard PR non-response by Samu.

Too bad it's not only the PR non-response that shows Samu and Contador want to ride in one team together. Their actions on the road(and off the road) speak clearly.

Do you think Contador will resign with Saxo if Riis doesn't get more money or a second sponsor on board? Common sense says no. So it doesn't matter if Riis won't have the money next year as the team that will get to sign Contador for 2013 will have more than enough money.

The only big "IF" here is whether Euskaltel quits next year or not. Let's hope not.

There's a world of difference between "I'm friends with this guy and we have similar tactical interests right now" and "I want to put an end to my career as a team leader and ride to support him at the most important races."

Whether Samuel Sanchez is on Contador's team or not, he's not going to finish ahead of him in a GT. If you can't beat them, join them. I'm sure he'd still be a protected rider and not sacrificed completely like Navarro or Hernandez.

If his aim is a podium, and Contador finishes 1st, he doesnt need to beat Contador to finish 2nd or 3rd.

Do you see how that works?

If the Schlecks can get on the podium together, a better pair of cyclists can win and get third or something. Samuel Sanchez for example could be the one that always reacts to Frank Schleck's attacks while Contador concentrates on Andy. On descends they could just power away together and gap the Schleck bros even more.

this is just stupid logic.

I guess pretty much every decent GT contender should ride for contador. Heck what is the point of even holding the race.

el pickle you need to learn to accept when your wrong.

I guess Samu is wrong as well when he says he wants to ride in the same team as Contador.

Thank god he has you guys to tell him that!

Some of you guys really do think too highly of your own opinion.
