Ah, OK. No contract duplicity then (that's the kind of scenario I was thinking of when I said he wouldn't be stupid enough to sign an actual contract).

even if he signed an official contract it wouldn't matter since he has one with acqua and that one will count

just some guy said:
I can´t believe he did not have a clause that said If a World tour teams wants to sign me I am free to leave.

he is free to leave but he doesn't want to leave. he rather stays at acqua for his progress

that makes sense re the rider but no sense for the situation

he must have been in talks with LGC and signed something or given a verbal agreement for them to announce him as a rider.

if he believed staying a Acqua was better then he should have said from the start.

all this is irrespective of Acqua being a team next year or not

Why would he think that Acqua is better for his progress?
Probably because at Acqua he's much higher up in the hierarchy (he'll probably be second only to Garzelli, or at least has a good shot at it; and Garzelli is ancient) and he won't miss any races that currently interest him.

Well that's better for his results, but I'm not sure if it's better for his development. Liquigas should have a much bigger budget for developing talents and seems to be doing so fairly successfully.
As long as Betancourt keeps outperforming the Liquigas talents in races like Lombardy (not to mention the Giro), I think he's okay where he is.

of course being aleader in a team is better for your development. this guy is not a future gregario.

Jonny Bellis confirmed to An Post Sean Kelly. As is Jon Mould, another young rider with a decent track background, to add to the whole bunch of young track riders they've signed this year.

Mark McNally has also signed for another year, after his Europcar move fell through because the team didn't get WT status.

Still haven't heard anything definite about Gediminas Bagdonas, who was scheduled to move to Geox.

Well, more to the point: greenedge says something about Austria being better preparation for the Worlds than Eneco, because it's more indicative of the Worlds course... when the Eneco Tour actually takes place on some of the roads of the Worlds.

Ok sry i forgot. Trawling through the replies a bit late. All i mean is i doubt Lloyd could win there and a good showing on any of Austrias' big climbs would guarantee him a place.

He's struggled with illness and injuries since his breakthrough 2009 season, hasn't really done anything of note, and will have been shoved way down the hierarchy with the emergence of people like Kittel. He's probably a bit fed up and not enjoying it so much anymore.

Sad to hear. He was quite a big talent. Skil said that they didn't want to renew his contract because his development had stalled. You can't really blame them though.

He said that he had offers from some Continental teams but chose to pursuit a civil career instead.
