well - as any team who is built around a GC leader .... if you take away that GC leader, then yeah they suck.

Anyway - next year they will have Gilbert as well. Hoping for a great classics and GT campaign

Sky lost Wiggins and had a good Tour. OPL lost VDB and also had a good Tour.

BMC were very good in the first two weeks and then fell off completely when they reached the mountains. Not surprising given their line up though. Just shows what a performance it was from Cadel

On a whole of the season, take away cuddles and you have a very average team. Very average. Same as last season.

Team lacks depth, especially in terms of results, thus they are not a great team. Great teams get results accross the board.

BMC didn't really offer Evans much in the way of support. However, team support came into this race far less than it usually does, partly because of people being wiped out by illness and injury, partly because of the backloading of stages, and partly because of GC riders coming out to play in the Alps for once.

Evans didn't look to have any more help in the mountains than he had at Lotto, in fact compared to Horner dragging him along in 2007 he had less. However, unlike, say, 2008, there was no super-strong team that could use numbers against him; only 2 teams really came into this race with multiple bullets in their gun GC-wise - Radioshack (who lost all four to crashes), and Leopard. And BMC did a better than expected TTT, but Evans would have won without that, looking at the gap he opened up in the ITT. But apart from that and keeping him up near the front on stage 1, they didn't really do much for him. Sylwester Szmyd never really put the hurt on big-style, Leopard didn't really take advantage of their numerical advantage until it was too late and they'd lost time in the descents and wasted their opportunities in the Pyrenées.

Evans never had to defend the yellow, which had burnt up his helpers in the past. That isn't to say Evans didn't win it himself - his ride up the Galibier is the main contributing factor. But if he'd burnt out domestiques and had to be leading the chase himself in other stages like in the 2010 Giro, would he have had the energy remaining to do that?

yeah I thought there was less control in this race, I noted this in another thread. WHich I think may have contributed this being a some what unpredictable and entertaining race in the less week.

Not only Voeckler but Hushovd as well. Evans was only a second behind Hushovd and that second was probably very useful to not have gained in the end.

Oh, yes, Cuddles was in the absolutely dream position for that week. As near as damnit to the lead, but with no responsibilities of chasing. Hushovd's surprising strength to Mur-de-Brétagne and Super-Besse was absolutely ideal for Evans. If he'd taken yellow to Super-Besse I don't doubt the result would have been the same the following day however, since giving Voeckler the yellow in that breakaway was always the sensible option, though of course few would have anticipated his strength in the climbs this year.

Support just doesn't involve who you have with you on the last climb; it also involves getting the right bike, the right training program, team training schedules, a DS that knows how to get the best out of you and sponsors that put their money in and not try to run the team themselves.

I found the Scott Sunderland interview after the final stage very interesting.
Speaking with Tomolaris of SBS he was asked about the chance of Cav riding for Team Sky next year. I don't have the video but went something like

MT: With your insight into team sky what do you make of the rumours that he will ride for sky next year and do you have any inside information on that.
SS: He will ride for sky next year
MT: Can you confirm that
SS: No I can't confirm that. But he will be

Yes I heard that too, but until the HTC / Highroad deal is done and dusted and sorted out one way or the other, I won't believe the hype.

If Cav goes to Sky, and Renshaw and Goss go to Greenedge, won't bode well for HTC, if they are still around (which I hope they are)
