Yep, very unfussy. I don't think he did himself any favours in the Tour during the TTT though. He got dropped very quickly. And we don't know how much he's earning. He came to Sky as German Champion - I'm sure that came with a premium.

I'm sure the fact that he came cap in hand because Pegasus collapsed probably offset it.

Without Renshaw, they'll probably mix and match, depending on the race. Swift and Thomas on occasions, but Eddie at the Tour, for sure. They've had success before. And let's not start this 'it's a waste' business. It's far less of a waste than doing a great train and then having Eddie finish 4th or 5th in every sprint.

Apparently he wasn't well during the first week. There's no way Knees is the sort of rider to drop off in a TTT that quickly.

My biggest fear is that that means they'll either not ride the Volta (I'm pretty sure Caja Rural will, they did that and Burgos this year) or ride it like Cunego and Tiralongo in 2009 as a warmup event).

I think Hernâni should have the Volta as a target after the Spanish early-season stage races, and André should ride the Vuelta. Twice in a row we've seen Hernâni crash and burn on the final weekend of the Volta, and I wonder if he simply doesn't have the recovery, cos he's been great in shorter races.

I look forward to seeing Caja Rural tear events like Asturias and Castilla y León to shreds next year with the two of them, José Herrada and Javier Moreno.

ya i agree with you. they should send broco to the volta and use cardoso at the vuelta as he is much more talented then broco.
will caja rura get to ride pais vasco?

also next year the worlds will be hilly again so i would like to see what can cardoso do with a proper preparation.

Good to see tdg securing a long term deal. He 's a proper racer, and sure deserves it.

He did an even better job as a stage hunter.

That race was from the golden era when other sprinters were respectful and just watched Cav win. That train just surged along merrily winning. In a confused sprint he seems to get boxed more often than not.

Now that Caja Rural are ProContinental and obviously have ambitions (remember, they've won a good sized stage race this year and were looking for the Vuelta. To tell the truth it's a joke that Andalucía are going and Caja Rural aren't if results are the criterion), there's a good chance they can offer a comparable salary with better opportunities, or possibly even a better salary.

It really wouldn't be worth them moving over to Caja last year, when they were Continental, and the Spanish continental scene even when it had lots of teams didn't pay as well as the Portuguese, but Caja Rural is a step up from the Portuguese teams standing-wise.

How much of a difference in terms of money? I've heard a lot of stories about guys riding for peanuts in Portugal (and not just the $2 reject bin Spanish OP riders) so that does surprise me. IIRC Paco Mancebo was on €800,000 per year and when he OP caught up with him, he rode in Portugal because his price tag had dramatically decreased.

There was piece on RTP featuring Joaquim Andrade, president of Associação Portuguesa de Ciclistas Profissionais. I recall him saying an average rider earned about 1000 euros per month. It's not that much . The stories you heard were probably about CC Loule. On the last couple of years as a professional team there was indeed rumours about riders riding for peanuts (or nothing really).
