I doubt de la fuente will be joining amateurs. also I don't know how it is today but amateur team in spain pay quite a bit more than minimum wages in pro field

If they are paying money then they are not really amateur. I thought EE might pick up because he's Basque and would be on the cheap, so to speak.

"Amateur" is a blurry concept anyway, and there's no official category for it. It's Elite and Elite-u23.

I thought David De La Fuente was from Cantabria like Cobo. The Bisonte fans that came all the way down from Cantabria to celebrate his win in the Vuelta were interchanging sons about Fuente and Cobo.

Or do you mean that hes Basque like Indurain was "basque" ?

You have to be clearer, if you were talking about the Spanish national minimum wage rather than the UCI minimum wage :), as being "amateur" is competing without pay. Go google the Subway - Giant team from New Zealand, if you look at all the riders profiles, they all have side jobs (one is a lawyer, another is a engineer etc.), even though they do races in America and in Asia (the Tour of Korea being one of them).

no I never mean uci minimum wage as then ct teams can be amateur(like dutch teams) but south american ct teams and many unregistered teams are all pro too. there are hundreds of teams/clubs unregistered with uci that could be considered pro teams. paying their riders enough to live on at least

Poor Cobo, he deserved better than having to go back to Movistar (probably at a very small wage for a GT winner too). Hoped he would get a spot at Saxo.

de la Fuente is Cantabrian (from Reinosa). His name was painted on Peña Cabarga a few times, but naturally nothing like as often as Cobo's (with the Os given horns and a tail to mimic a bison). I think the sentences were muddled as Craig was referring to the post about Arkaitz Durán, who is indeed Basque of course (from Vitoria-Gasteiz).

it's not that i like the guy or so, but i'm disappointed. i'd like to see Cobo in Caja Rural or at least TT1 but not Movistar, though it seems he had little choice

will he bring Matxin with him?

(actually I hoped he'd end up to astana or katusha)

I doubt Cobo had enough bargaining power at this point to insist at this point in season's preparations that Movistar re-jig their entire power structure to accommodate Matxín.

I think it's good that the reigning Vuelta winner will ride for a WT team.

Who knows, maybe he'll outperform Valverde in the Tour like he outperformed Menchov in the Vuelta.

Of course a likelier scenario is something between his 2010 and 2011.

David Blanco and Alejandro Marque back to Tavira. It will be interesting to see the leadership dynamics between Blanco and Mestre, specially with the reduced portuguese calendar.
Well, I guess it gives the Portuguese péloton another decent sized name, but I hope Mestre lays the smack down because I don't want Blanco to beat Chagas' record in the Volta. That Tavira team looks mighty strong compared to the other 3 (2? Haven't really heard much from Boavista lately, but I assume Cabreira and co will be somewhere where they can do the Volta) teams now that Hernâni Broco's left LA-Antarte. And apart from Santí Pérez, who seems to peak for Asturias and be terrible in August anyway, I don't really see any major names for the Portuguese péloton available for them to pick up to try to compete with Tavira, unless Nuno Ribeiro or Héctor Guerra come back.

Looks like a decent squad they're putting together there. I like the kits too, very distinctive.

I don't know about Guerra but Nuno Ribeiro will be back to racing in 2012 with Barbot Efapel alongside Sérgio Sousa, Rui Sousa, Sérgio Ribeiro and Filipe Cardoso. And Santi Perez seems to be out of the team.
