Its all very nice saying that history says that Saxo are right up there but Roche isnt transfering back in time. They currently dont have the Schlecks, Basso, Canc etc. They finished last in the WT rankings and 21st in the CQ rankings last year and are currently 21st in the CQ rankings and last in the WT rankings this year. They are currently a 2 man team and are certainly NOT one of the best in the world.

If one's privy to the budget and intentions of a team for next season then let's see how things develop in course of next few months.

Relax. Riis stated that they are gonne get alot of new riders (think mentioned 5-10 with 10 being most likely).

Imo Roche wasnt a "points"-signing. He was signed to be an important help for Contador. There will be alot of other signings, of which there will surely be "points"-signing. I have little doubt that WBTB will be a WT-team next year and that they will be a strong squad with more than only Contador.

Their weakness this year is more of a fact than your predictions of their strength next year.

I don't give a fig anyway. Roche has stagnated so he's taking the money to be a dom for a rider who doesn't need them and doesn't use them.

My prediction is completely irrelevant - the thing is Roche is describing his point of view, which is the important thing. His point of view doesn't have to be based on the current standings or a concise, scientific research based evaluation.

It seems he's quite capable seeing that the current results are based on main star being absent, 2nd most important rider injured through season.

Obviously, this applies to anybody so on the other hand you're quite free to say they stink and base it purely on the points scored this season.

Good sign for cycling if Riis is signing someone like Roche. I will now spent the next 6 mths orientating myself towards a toleration of the almighty contador!

nice one :D

that's more or less the way i behave when cheering for a team or a rider (after pantani and indurain for whom i cheered in any case or team they signed for or whatever)
i don't like very much liquigas team, but from next year on i can very much tolerate Nibali who'll ride for Astana and its mighty chief Vino :)

Yep, Saxo had a bad year in 2011 and yet they managed - as the only team - to win both a GT and a monument :)

1) there is something new in that article. So far SBTB has been believed to be the more likely destination for Fuglsang (his agent saying 60% chance for SBTB and 30% for OPQS). So it is new that the media states that it has sources saying that OPQS is now the likely destination.
http://www.sporten.dk/cykling/holm-taet-paa-at-snyde-riis-for-fuglsang
U can disbelieve the article, fine, but to state that there is nothing new in it is wrong.
Fuglsang had a online fan chat where he stated that he wants to go to a team where he can be team leader. It is unlikely the case at Saxo Tinkoff Banks, unless he gets guarantees from Riis. At OPQS there are more opportunities, although they have Martin, Velits and Leipheimer.

Currently, yes. Historically, no. In the future, looks to be much stronger than in 2011 and 2012

Allow me to quote myself:

... in the coming two years - which is the main thing when it comes to Roche and his valid expectations for his contract period - they ... will likely be one of the strongest teams.

However, you're obviously completely free not to like that fact one bit...

And you're quite free - just like Roche is - to think otherwise. What Roche says is his viewpoint - and as Cocteau says he's likely to know more about the team's plans for next year than any of us are - that the team is one of the strongest...

“In the past, some squads have sidelined their big riders near the end of the season, knowing that they wouldn’t be with them the following year and that any more points they earned would be going towards another team’s points, but Ag2r have let me continue with my programme,” Roche said.

This is good news for SBTB. Maybe Danny, Jesus and Bruno should work for Roche after COntador has taken off from the front :D

It also speaks a bunch about how you can do it differently than the Hog... But that belongs in the RSNT thread I believe :)

Very professionally done by AG2R - if they don't get the sporting points at least the get brownie points!

It's no surprise though. Not everyone has the great morality of Johan..

If there's something Saxo has been known for already from their Tiscali days it's team chemistry. And no - Saxo doesn't have a few very good riders. They have one. Bjarne has said that a minimum of 5 prominent names will arrive and then you'll suddenly see them being able to help Alberto = looking like a strong team in great balance.

Saxo doesn't have a few very good riders. They have one.....

I guess you new at this and if not, maybe consider a new sport. Saxo have 1 good rider? So 1 good and the rest is outstanding good, or 1 good and the rest sucks?

jesus.

It was not in the Independent as announced. Did you ever check it? so spare me the rolleyes, you only got it from the tabloids, took it for granted, good for you it was valid... this time. Not even on his twitter it said anything. But thank god for feltet.dk and its amazing journalisme skills, what would you do without

It could have been The Sun announcing it and still be legit since their source and quotes came, funnily enough, from Roche's own column...

Or how about the unthinkable '1 very good rider and plenty of good/decent riders'?.. Who are the rest of the very good riders, fido?

Btw, what exactly does my experience on two wheels, wearing a helmet and having my hands on a handlebar have to do with an assesment of a team.?.

I got it from this:

http://www.newstalk.ie/2012/sport/nicholas-roche-joins-alberto-contador-at-saxo-bank-tinkoff-bank/

They quote lines he wrote in his blog. Unless u assume they are lying and making up the Roche quotes (and in that case I might call u paranoid) it was as official as it gets. So yes, the rolleyes are pretty much deserved. Atm u are just being opinionated trying to find way out of your own mess. Would be better just so say "yeah ok, I see". But thats never an option for u. U rather continue down a dead end road.

sorry mate, I checked the info, I checked the independent and other media before I wrote anything, perhaps take that in mind before you make any stupid conclusions based on absolutely nothing, my point is and always was, check the info before you post it, but if you have a problem with I make a statement in a public fora and question the info is valid... well, is your problem, not mine.

And please spare me the insults, it only makes you look even dumber.

Yeah, a Danish catfight! (Or maybe dogfight?;))

Let's not get all worked up in a thread called "transfers and rumours 2012-13"...................

I believe the almost-not-official-rumour that Roche has signed for Saxobank-Tinkoff

Has these rumours about Coppel to Cofidis any truth in it? Would be awesome for the team and would take some pressure off of Taaramäe. Cofi needs 2nd leader for the next year when Moncoutie retires.

Lemarchand and Hardy would be also good signings. As is Fedrigo if he comes.

Julien Fouchard like Taaramäe extended his contract to 2014.
