Because to people raised in a country where 50m above sea level is considered the highlands, Colombia is a world of totally alien wonder, a bit like putting the Amish in the control room at NASA.
I think I get it now, you're trying to say Ryo is an Amish alien, right? :D

Lol, I've always liked Colombians too, even before I was eally into cycling. I remember when Soler got the polka dot jersey in the TDF, at that time I was only watching TDF and wasn't into cycling at all, but I sure thought Soler was awesome. Same thing when Uran showed up. :D

Never realised it was a Dutch thing.

Though one can't deny Soler was awesome, Henao doing a top 10 in his first GT is pretty impressive, and Quintana and Betancur are awesome too. Only Duarte has disappointed. So maybe not that much of a Dutch thing, but mainly just a couple of awesome Colombian riders.

There's a reason the Amish speak Pennsylvania Dutch, you know.

(it's nothing to do with the Netherlands or the language spoken there).

I heard another theory in a different forum. It seems he got acquainted with Colombians in his many swims from Oranjestad, Aruba to Maicao, Colombia.

Henao signed with Sky before Coldeportes existed.

My apologies. I was under the impression Henao rode for them last year, but I was obviously wrong. I'm sorry about that.

the explanation is very simple. dutch simply like beauitful sport. pantani, outside of italy he was the most popular in the netherlands for instance. also we like to play nice football rather than win dull. that's why why nobody cares about rabobank really but rather vacansoleil

I have a hard time believing that last statement. I would hope Rabobank is more popular than Vacansolei. (No disrespect to Vacansolei)

Michael Matthews To Join ORICA-GreenEDGE

MEDIA RELEASE
15 August 2012

________________________________________

ORICA-GreenEDGE is pleased to announce Michael Matthews will join the team in 2013 on a two year contract. The young Australian won the U-23 World Championships in Melbourne in 2010, the first stage of the Tour Down Under when he made his WorldTour debut in 2011 and most recently, stage three of Tour of Utah.

"I chose ORICA-GreenEDGE for several reasons," said Matthews. "Most importantly, it will be an amazing experience to be a part of an Australian team. I really look forward to racing with and learning from some of the best Australian riders in the world."

Sports Director Matt White believes the signing underscores the team's commitment to development.

"Michael in an exciting young Australian with a big future ahead of him," White said. "He's already shown great results, but he is still developing as an athlete and I'm very pleased he will be able to do that with us."

White expects Matthews to add to the team's competitiveness in a variety of races as his career progresses.

"He's a very powerful rider and his skills give him the ability to win in quite varied terrain, as he has shown already," said White. "I think that he will benefit from the experienced riders we have to help him make the next steps in his career."

Joining the team in its sophomore season, Matthews is confident that he will integrate easily.

"I have a long history with a lot of the staff," he explained. "I also rode with a lot of my future teammates on the U-23 Jayco Skins team, so it will be great to work with them again. I'm here to learn from my teammates, and hopefully I'll get some opportunities of my own when I'm ready."

Give it 1 - 2 years, and GreenEDGE will dominate the pro tour, UK postal vs AU postal, epic battle.

Good signing, but umm... another "sprinter".

Davis or Keukleire to leave?

Don't see him as a flat track sprinter though?

I'd really like to see Matthews develop into a one day rider, rather than see him become a pure sprinter.

I am happy if he does leave, he should have won more this year. Next year i expect him to win the TDU by smashing in Stirling/ holding on in Wilunga.

No, but if their nation wins or does well they usually don't care in which way it was achieved. When the Dutch footbal team got to the WC final, which is a big achievement, 'experts' like Johan Cruijff were still complaining about the poor quality of football by the Dutch team.

Is this even remotely on topic btw?

He has a point though, even though it fainted a bit the last few years most Dutch people rather lose the beautiful way than win in a dull, or not beautiful, way.

World cup 2010 begs to differ tho. But otherwise I somewhat agree. I still think its wring to say that 99% of the colombians live up to that "beautiful way" as Ryo suggests

That's why I say it fainted a bit. But after these Euros all of a sudden all people started to say they were fed up with the way of playing from about 2010 anyway. Kinda shows their ignorance as well...
