Hugo Koblet said:20-year-old Jay McCarthy joins Saxo Bank - Tinkoff Bank on a two year deal.
From the team's homepage:
"The hugely talented Australian all-rounder recently won the prologue of Tour de l'Avenir. This year he also won Trofeo Piva Banca Popolare di Vicenza, he has stage wins in Tour de Bretagne, Toscana Terra di Ciclismo and New Zealand Cycle Classics and won the latter overall.
"I have no doubts whatsoever that Jay is an enormous talent, and his future in cycling looks bright, if he can continue developing as a rider. Therefore it is crucial for him and us to now focus on his progression rather than results. He is still very young and therefore he will get a protected race program. He is here to learn and grow as a bike rider, and we will support him as much as we can. I'm happy to welcome him onboard our team and look forward to start working with him," team owner Bjarne Riis says."
Did not see that one coming. With all the rumours of riders joining STB, I would have thought the rumour would have slipped out.
What's wrong with Saxo? They're probably as good as anyone at talent development... Porte, Majka, Fuglsang, Breschel, and what about Andy Schleck?Bye Bye Bicycle said:What a waste. Would have loved to see McCarthy at a nicer team.
Bye Bye Bicycle said:Yeah, with Bjarne Riis as team manager and Contador as company this is the perfect start into a clean cycling career. That's wrong with Saxo.
Yeah, blablabla. Good luck finding a team without riders/directors tainted by doping.Bye Bye Bicycle said:Yeah, with Bjarne Riis as team manager and Contador as company this is the perfect start into a clean cycling career. That's wrong with Saxo.

Bye Bye Bicycle said:I don't like the idea of neo pros having Bjarne Riis as first team manager and the likes of Contador as company. There are better role models for clean cycling around.
FDJ had some good experiences with Aussie neo pros (McGee, Sulzberger). Would have preferred to see McCarthy there.
Cimber said:This is totally off topic, but I do understand your take on Riis, but I dont understand who Contador is supposed to be such bad influence as he wasnt banned cos of doping. But againg this is off topic so lets continue such discussions in the clinic.
Oh its a bit naive to expect that no neo pros was gonna sign with SBTB. And now u meantion McGee he is DS on SBTB
JRanton said:Why was he banned then?
Yeah, mentioning McGee was quite hilarious.Cimber said:This is totally off topic, but I do understand your take on Riis, but I dont understand who Contador is supposed to be such bad influence as he wasnt banned cos of doping.
