In a very recent interview Caleb Ewan noted that he had had a few preliminary discussions with pro-teams including SBTB and that he'd weigh it up, but he felt it was most likely he'd go to the Jayco-AIS u/23 team for at least one year to continue to grow and learn the trade of professional cyclist. Something also alluded to in this article interviewing one of the AIS coaches.

http://www.smh.com.au/sport/cycling...or-ewan-says-former-coach-20120924-26hps.html

No surprise he's in SBTBs sights given he's from Bowral, home of SBTB DS Brad McGee's family bike store...Im sure they've helping him out with kit etc for a while as a "local lad"

As for OGE missing out on talents, I think its a good thing that young Australian riders go to other teams, not everyone is suited to the AIS methods and Im sure getting out of a 'system' is a good break for some of these guys who've ridden track in the AIS since they were teens.

Does anyone know CJ Suttons' contract with Sky, because if i were him i would try leave now that Swift, EBH and Rowe (maybe) shall go for sprints. It was bad enough with Cav there this year for him and he had a great season last year with KBK and a Vuelta win.

As far as I know, CJ is very comfortable working under Uncle Shane.

Cyclingfever (if you believe them) also have him listed as having signed an extension.

I understand that OGE are going to be full next year but it annoys me that riders like McCarthy and Dennis are going to SBS and Garmin. OGE do have quite a few young riers already Howard, Travis Meyer, Hepburn, Durbridge... but why not continue in that vein and snare Aussie talent, in their early stages. Surely the management should have tried to account for this.

sutton is actually very happy at sky and wants to stay

Correct me if i'm wrong but OGE are not full for next year. With Wilson, Bobridge and McEwen departing this year and just Matthews and Bewley in. Durbridge and Hepburn still neo's so 30 still allowed I believe.

I think in regards to your question it doesn't really make sense for OGE to sign more neo's until next year when Durbridge and Hepburn no longer count (or do they?). With Dean and O'grady possibly only having a year or so left in their careers next year would make more sense to pick up a neo or 2 next year - ewen or giacoppo or someone completely different.

I'm wondering who the rider to fill the final spot may be. I wonder if they will consider taking a punt of Will Walker by bringing him back into the big leagues. Don't think its a great idea personally even though he's been tearing up the domestic scene in his first races. I think Vanmarke would be a good signing or someone like that. Co-lead the classics with Langerveld - has confirmed he was leaving Garmin too but is linked with Rabo. Other names off contract in the moulds they are often after that come to mind include Jesse Seargent or David Villeaux both who are good riders. If they are looking at stage racers Rory Sutherland mentioned on twitter that big things were happening for him in a cryptic message I wonder if they are linked.

I also wonder with Rabo's greater emphasis on building a lead out whether one of their young dutch stage racers might be going to GE - probably too many good young dutch talents to all nurture at Rabo just as bobridge may benefit from going elsewhere too.

I can´t see why all this concern about youngsters joining Saxo bank, aussies or not?
Saxo do an impressive work with their talents, they get all the guidance, support and help anybody could ever ask for, they get a place of their own, teammates who lives nearby and personal trainers. Nobody is left on their own, and they train in the best enviroment possible.
I can surely think of other teams who didn´t give a rats azz about their well being and many talents wasted or set back because of it, you never see that on Saxo and they never put any pressure but let their talents develop in a descent manner, just as it should be.

Maybe somebody got other issues with the team or whatever, but their talent work is as good as any, if not the best.

I quite personally like SBS. I know all the points you have said ( Bjarne has been very sucessful as a rider/ manager)- i was only annoyed at OGEs' policy, not at the Aussie riders going to other teams.
I did also mention Dennis going to Garmin not just McCarthy SBS.

Also @Sydney: I have no clue about the OGE numbers- i just assumed they were on 30. Even so on 29 they would not have been able to signone of McCarthy/ Dennis. Also i do not know how long being a neo-pro is.

Apparantly the Germans linked with Euskaltel are Gerdemann and Schulze. Horrible, I don't rate Gerdemann at all.

Ricardo Mestre (Tavira, winner of 2011 Volta a Portugal) is rumoured to Euskaltel apparently. Even if he's now a bit old to make a big impact on the WT level (close to 30 years) he's just too good to the current portuguese level which seems to be going down steadily.

Perhaps he can be a decent domestique on a GT (he won a 11 day stage race after all:p) and he should have some points from the Volta win.

For those who don't know him: he's a good climber and a decent TT'er on hilly courses. Maybe he's the portuguese answer to Fredrik Kessiakoff :D (on a lower level it seems)

that's surprising to say the least. however i will only believe it when i see it. after all him to AG2R was a done deal last season

he could be a top domestique for the GT's absolutely, i mean he is a much better time trialist then cardoso and prolly also a better climber and cardoso finished 21th on the vuelta on his first GT.

btw will amaro antunes, rafael reis and joni brandão stay on their teams for next season?

what about nelson oliveira? will he renew with the shack or move to another team? honestly he needs to up his game if he wants to have any relevant spot on a world tour team

oliveira has to leave shack. probably back to portugal, if he can find a team.

and mestre is a worse climber than cardosos 100% and he didn't exaclty set the world on fire, neither did broco despite all the portugese hype last year  also 21st in a vuelta? who cares. the guy finished more than 30 minutes back. I'll admitt myself I'm very disapointe dby him this season. broco I know isn't too much. but cardoso seemed to be of more special type that could do well in wt. bit like machado, who has also completely faded

They're getting rid of Txurruka because of a lack of results, and signing Gerdemann?? Oooookay.

i don't think broco has ever been hyped, me and libertine always said he should do the vuelta because he most likely couldn't handle a GT.

anyway it's not like i am saying mestre would be a leader, just a guy like hernandez or something like that. and he did out climb cardoso on the stage to senhora da graça last year. And it's not like he is going to sky, at euskaltel he would probably be one of their best domestiques.

i agree with you on cardoso being a disappointment this season, his vuelta wasn't awful but not exactly good either, it was his first GT tho so i will give him a break on that. i think he should focus on breakaways on mountain stages and domestique work. not every1 can be a leader after all
