I wonder whether/ why their relationship turned sour? I am sure Vanmarcke would have been leader for the Classics and with Van Summeren, Klier, Maaskant and Haussler he would have had a great team.
Vanmarcke wasn't too happy this spring, he had to beg to be able to ride for himself at the Omloop (and he proved his DSes wrong, of course).

That, and $$$.

I dont understand it either. He could get Vuelta leadership or Giro, but I dont think he is Tour leader material. But well, he can only surprise I reckon ;)
Astana try everyone. Kreuziger, Brajkovic, now Fuglsang... fail after fail, I'm afraid.

Yep seems so. Here is the link to the newspaper running the story

http://translate.google.com/transla...trabladet.dk/sport/cykling/article1808817.ece

The newspaper claims that Nibali will be Giro captions and Fuglsang will get leadership in the Tour and/or the Vuelta. The team wil be divede so that Nibs and Fugl will get each there set of helpers for the season.

Tbh I think Astana will be just as disappointed with Fuglsang as they were with Kreuziger. But good to see Fuglsang finally getting to test himself

I can't believe hoiw astana always buy such overrated riders that turn out to be nothing like kreuziger, masciarelli, seeldrayers and mark my words, next year nibali and fuglsang. horrible scouting

Do Astana seriously expect Fuglsang to achieve much in a GT. I'd say if he gets top ten he can be very happy with that result, can't see him ever making the podium. Would have been better off keeping Kreuziger imo.

But after that race wasn't he named co-leader of the Roubaix team? I would think that made him pretty happy.

Jakob Fuglsang has signed for Astana, says @Feltetdk, quoting newspaper Ekstra Bladet.

linky:

The Danish media Ekstrabladet think they know that Danish Jakob Fuglsang has signed a three-year contract with the Kazakh World Tour team Astana.

Jakob Fuglsang has been in negotiations with both Bjarne Riis of Team Saxo Bank Tinkoff Bank and Omega Pharma-Quick Step, but according to the Danish newspaper, he finally chose Astana.

It´s probably the best singing for Fuglsang, but now the time of whinning is over, no more excuses, Vino will make sure of that.

Though I don´t see Fuglsang as a gc winner ever, then he have 3 years to prove him self, and finally have a team who will support him 100%.

But I also think he went for the money on this deal, but who wouldn´t with these promises. Astana showed they wanted him, let´s not hope they bought the cat in the sack.

Good luck to Jakob.

This would also probably be the end to the rumors about Andy joining Astana.

I can say even more - Guardini will come with his lead-out Cipollini

i'm sure that grande cipollini will have a better season next year than fuglsang anyway:p

but again,i'm sure that andy will arrive at astana too next year so fuglsang will be a domestique for le tour

it always strikes me... this huge lot of team leaders...why the hell not become a supreme team domestique?where are the chechu's,where are the zaina's,where are robertitos heras? it looks like to be a GC contender who people forget easily is more wanted than to become a beast who does his job brilliantly for his leader

nowadays fuglsang wants to be team leader for le tour for christ sake....

Heras was a sellout. I still remember what must have been Pajares in 2002 when there was a boatload of Onces still in the main group and Heras by his lonesome. Ok, not by his lonesome, the spirit of Armstrong was with him as was speculated.

I think you're too hard on dude. He's only done GT's as a support rider except for Vuelta last year where he was not that bad considering that he had been in shape since June. He was 1.37 after Monfort who was fifth, for instance. It was reported previously that Fuglsang was supposed to be co-leader with Brajkovic which does not seem outrageous. Since Astana will also have Kessiakoff and Grivko and some others to attack it looks like they will have a strong collective.

I assume it's all about the money. Garmin isn't the richest team out there.

Yes that will be pretty much it. Sep is one of a small number of young guys who are expected to be this generation's cobbled classic stars. Garmin are a small budget team.

It won't be over anything like team leadership (he wasn't going to start a cobbled race as anything less than co-captain for Garmin) and it won't be over strength of support, as they have a very strong support squad for his kind of races. It will be about money.

And that's fair enough really. Cyclists have short careers and they don't get paid the kind of money a lot of other athletes get.
