Chris Horner not getting a contract says everything about the decline of the Vuelta

No, its says everything about Horner, or I should say what teams think about his credibility.

Which would probably be a very healthy thing.

Great news... Finally a Romanian signs with a continental team.(a strong one too)

Do you know anything about Nechita situation at the moment?

don't know for sure. still with zalf i guess. very hard for him to step up at his age.

papy wanted too much money. this is no more the situation where the teams hunt for uci points. i still think he can find easily a team but with less money, a lot less. he gambled and he lost. do remember that he actually did found a team for a lot of money(alonso) but the project collapsed. i hope he will be smart, he still looks terrific, trains hard, stays fit. should sign with europcar in my opinion. even for 200.000 per year

and the vuelta is probably more popular in europe than ever. also the tv audiences were great, no scandals very good. the most spectacular in terms of action grand tour of the year.

Yeah he overplayed his hand. Maybe he thought because of his status and Trek being an American company, they would meet his demands. The contract they offered him probably wasn't half bad either, better than any lower division team anyways, plus access to all the best races. Too bad for him indeed that the Alonso team didn't work out, seems like there he would have had it all.

But now he ended up with nothing. Even if he does find a Continental squad like Christina Watches, I assume they won't be able to pay what a WorldTour squad would pay, plus the highlight of his season will be Tour of Denmark.

I think he should have just swallowed his pride and taken Trek's deal even if, by his merits, he deserved more. He seems like a true racer who doesn't care whether it's WT or .2 races, but it sure would have been nicer to see him in the WT.

Now the only thing he can do is find a personal sponsor who will pay his salary and whom he can bring to a team..... like DiLuca

the story about christina watches was just publicity anyway

for less money, there still is a place on yellow fluo or androni(gavazzi left the team), teams with a decent calendar.
anyway, i 'm really feeling sorry for him because he deserved much more in his career.

Yes, he gambled and lost, but if you should believe the reactions and comments in the public media right after the Vuelta, including the ones that came from inside the sport, not many believed he was riding clean, but without saying it directly.
He´s an "old" man, sport wise, naturally it will be harder to find a team whos ready to pay full salary for a GT winner, he miscalculated his value, and I still think some managers are afraid a future WADA case could pop up in the wake.

I think he will have to sign a contract and ride for free, or at least for a minimal salary. He totally misjudged his situation.

PS: its said his salary on CW would be around 2 - 3 million Dkr, about 4 - 500.000 Usd, money Hembo claims hes trying to find. Hilarious.

I can understand why he misjudged the situation initially. What puzzles me is that it's months now that it became clear that he should ask a lot less money (at least after the dismissal from Trek) and yet nothing happened.
Maybe the WT teams actually don't want him (we know why) no matter the money.

Chris Horner drops his agent (Rutherford) and replaces him with ...... Baden Cooke.

Lets hope Baden can make something out of it!

With Horner being among the 10 best riders in the world...it should be possible.

Maybe there is more to it. He might have agreed to join Alonso next year (for big $), and could be looking for a team that is prepared to sign him for one year only , plus wanting to cherrypick his races too.

More or less similar to LL Sanchez, who will probably join Alonso too next year and ended up at Caja Rural, signing for one year only.
