While i don't think he is a top GT rider, if his recovery is as bad as you say how do you explain this the day after his second stage win from the break?

And he still had more to give but Valverve rushed himself to go on the attack so soon, perico delgado said it.

He has also been constantly improving and if he takes another step like the he did on the last 2 seasons he could certainly fight for the top 5 at the tour as he already is good enough to top 10 at the moment.

Cobo to Lampre would not be bad and not very expensive for the team.
maybe Matxin could wake him up. and make him train and forget the chicas for a few months :D
the problem about his poor form should anyway be discussed in the clinic...

while I guess the $$$ for Costa could come more from Merida than from Mr Lampre

If Cobo wants to have future success, reunion with Matxin is the obvious move.

Costa joining Lampre will be bad news for Ulissi. They are very much the same type of riders.

They should have Anaconna back next year too. They will have some Stage race and Hilly Classics potential.

They will have to find a better support cast to Pippo for the Cobbles.

cunego getting dropped by beautiful joao cabreira and nuno ribeiro. yes i want that again!
and kashechkin before deciding that he wants to be a cyclotourist made his comeback in the lampre colours in portugal

he did very well in his comeback season to... 18th in the Vuelta straight after a suspension is very impressive, so Lampre is not a bad team to go to if you want to restart you career again.

Movistar update:

15 riders so far have contracts for 2014. The seven recently announced extensions (Herrada brothers, Rojas, Lastras, Intxausti, Visconti, Plaza) plus eight who already have existing contracts (Valverde, Nairo Quintana, Amador, Castroviejo, Dowsett, Ospina, Capecchi and Szmyd).

Renewals are pending for seven riders: Erviti, Gutiérrez, Karpets, Moreno, Sanz, Teruel and Ventoso.

Unzue says ''Cobo is leaving, either Costa or Madrazo are leaving as well''. He expects to sign five or six new riders. Malori and Dayer Quintana pretty much confirmed. Izaguirre brothers are rumoured to be joining.

The other news is that a new three year deal with Movistar to 2016 should be announced during the Vuelta.

SLightly off topic but as there is no Movistar topic (at least not that im aware off) whats up with Ospina? He didnt race for a while and dont see him on any startlist. Is he back in Colombia training/racing? Or is he injured?

You got the translation wrong at the last paragraph.

"Cobo is leaving, either Costa or Madrazo are leaving as well"
I don't think that's right. In this context, listing a number of examples, "o" is pretty much synonymous with "y" - the nuance is that you could go on mentioning other people. Madrazo is not staying.

I can't see Ulissi or Cunego working for Costa in the Ardennes. I'm glad to be proven wrong though.

Devil's advocate: Even if true, it's an improvement over having to work for someone else at the Ardennes.

Seems like a 1-year contract, or am I wrong?

True. Roughly translated

"It's easier to sign for three years, because you are garanteed a good contract and it takes the pressure off of you, but I'm not in agreement with that mentality. Not always the easiest path is the best to make. I think what's fairer for both parts is to sign for one year. This way we have a chance to know and adapt each other. It's a way to realize if this team is right for me and If I'm the right rider for this team. If I'm happy and the team is happy with my work, well sure we'll be together for many years, that's my intention."

Well it does make more sense then going to sky. . . .

And right now Costa has much better results than Ulissi so if anything Costa will be supported by the team and Ulissi will have a free role and not the other way around.

He says his schedule will be similar to this year so it should be something like:

Algarve (leader)
PN (leader)
Pais Vasco (leader with scarponi/ulissi)
Ardennes (same)
Romandie (leader)
Suisse (leader)
Tour (leader with scarponi as he hints on his letter scarponi will ride the tour next year)
Canadian races (leader)
Worlds
Italian Classics (shared leadership with Ulissi / Scarponi)
