can someone explain me how Nieve to Sky is something terrible, even when it was just a rumour, while noone has anything to say about the Anton to OPQS rumour

It's called a bandwagon.

That article says that Bakelants was believed to have taken the final spot but then another one opened up when Acevedo joined Garmin. It seems like Lefevere has ditched one of his existing riders at the last minute which would be typical of him.
**** I'm going to delete that post.

Is the team maxed out or are rider numbers limited by budget? Because De Gendt was reportedly a bargain.

Means more riders for the train to better crush exciting racing and make sure no one can attack.

Probably because most people are happy if Anton simply finds a team. OPQS isn't that bad either, he'll be given full freedom to do his (by now) pointless attacks.

Nieve is such a good rider he probably had a lot more options to choose from.

For me the reason is, I really like Nieve and really dislike Sky, while I feel neutral about Anton and like OPQS. But you already knew that;);)

I don't like either move really, but in theory:

Sky signing more strong climbers makes climbing races less competitive.
OPQS, as a team traditionally weak in climbers make things more competitive when they do.

Nibali wasn't that big a name at the time (2009). He was seen as one for the future with a couple of decent results. You could compare him then to someone like Talansky now.

Really? :O

Nibali was the fourth strongest climber in the '09 Tour (24 years old), had won Trentino (23 years old) and Plouay (21 years old).

Talansky is as old as Nibali was in 2009, and he isn't nearly as good as Nibali was then.

With Nibali you could be certain that he'd win a GT (or more), with Talansky not so much....

WT teams are limited to 30 riders (29th and 30th have to be neo-pro's).

Let's not pretend that Froome uses his train like Wiggins. He was the one doing the attacking at this year's Tour, even at the foot of L'Alpe d'Huez with a five minute plus lead in hand.

Of course, Froome will never need a train to the degree Wiggins did. But he will still use one to prevent other attacks, to make people hurt before attacking himself, or to chase down those attacking him. Sky's main tactic for the climbs is the train, and it has worked for them time and time again. I don't see them changing a winning strategy any time soon.

Froome didn't use the train in the Tour to prevent attacks or to ''crush exciting racing'', your words. Quite the opposite in fact.

Some speculation that Machado is joining Saxo on portuguese forums.

Machado says he already signed a contract for next year so eventually it will come out.

Yes really. Talansky's been top ten at the Tour and the Vuelta. Second in Paris-Nice and Romandie. Aside from a one day win, similar palmares at the same age.
Now Talansky probably won't go on to do as much as Nibali - but at the time (2009) he was, like Talansky now, a potential big name - not an actual one.

The purpose of a train is to keep the pace high thus preventing others from attacking or preventing those attacks from getting too far up the road. By doing this we aren't going to see as much exciting racing (defined as riders trading blows and attacking each other in the mountains).

Froomes main use of the train I would say was as a way of setting things up for his attacks unlike say Wiggins use of it, keeping attacks from going away up the whole climb. But even using it this way, they will still prevents most attack from going.

When I first read that I thought he's going to jump out of a plane over Dubai, what's that got to do with Team Transfers :D

Wow, you can really tell he still wants to race, every time he changes teams it gets worse. Then we have other riders complaining they can't find a team, looks like those who really want to continue do and those that want a cushy job won't.
