Well, maybe it would be smart for Andy to wait after the Tour de France to renew his contract...

Maybe not. If he busts in TdF he pretty much will have to take the contract then! But seriously surprised if he has been offered such a low contract.

So if not trek, where?

The contract is low but it has bonus in case of victories.
I think it's fair enough based on past 2 seasons.

José Been @TourDeJose

Cancellara signs new deal for 2014, '15 and '16 with Trek, Blick.ch reports

Same Blick.ch article states that both Schleck brothers were offered a paycheck 3 times lower than what they now have!

Very good, glad to hear.

Schlecks taking a paycut was expected, hope that doesn't make them decide to go somewhere else (although I wouldn't mind seeing the Schlecks under Vino :D). Maybe it can be good though, provide more motivation for Andy to perform this Tour kind of thing.

are all contracts invalid now?andy has a contract for 2014, why should he throw the money away?may be they are blackmailing him, saying they would fire fränk but if the new contract is really just 1/3 of the old that wouldnt make really sense either.

I believe that the remaining contracts stay valid, that was the point of Trek taking over the licence, however Fabian’s ran out at the end of the year anyway (hence the IAM rumours). Andy does have a contract for next year but brother Frank does not (surprised they didn't ensure contracts with the same length...) Trek are probably keen to sign Andy to an extension but obviously not at the same money.

If Andy is adamant that he will only sign if Frank is also offered a contract then Trek may insist that some of the money comes out of his pocket.

I beg to differ - I believe the contracts are not valid anymore. The contracts were with Leopard S.A., and since this company will pull out and likely cease to exist, they must sign new contracts with the new company if they want to stay with the team. I am not 100% certain of course but that is how I have understood the coverage so far. One thing I am certain of is that both Fränk and Andy signed with Leopard for 4 years.

Yeh, the contracts usually follow the management company. So everyone will need to be re-signed to whatever the Guercilena/Trek management company is (unless they physically bought Leopard). In other words, if a rider wants to sign to another team, there shouldn't be anything stopping them. I assume the reason for buying the Leopard license is that it simplifies the administrative process for gaining WT status, also no contracts means more freedom to refresh the squad.

Didn't realise that all Trek got was the WT licence out of it, really gives them a blank canvas but along with Vacansoleil that's a lot of riders possibly looking for new homes for next year.

Honestly I would like to see Andy on Cannondale or Astana, away from Frank and his other buddies. And he could probably make a much better contract doing so.

ok so the contracts are tied to the former owner and are invalid but the new license holder can sign riders before the august deadline?

Yes, but only announce them before 1st August if they were out of contract.

Perhaps either Vini Fantini or Androni?

He and Andy will join another team and will be a WT team for sure.

How about Orica? They know Brian Nygaard from the first Leopard year and they need some GC guys.

Christina Watches-Onfone. He's not getting any younger.

Or on the other hand, with the podium of the Tour of Luxembourg, 2nd in the Tour de Suisse and a few other points from earlier in the 2012 season still counting towards UCI points totals, he'd be a good fit for Euskaltel. Good climber but not good enough to win the big ones, appallingly bad descender, crashes a lot, chronically bad time triallist... the more I think about it the more it makes sense!

Also, his name in Basque phonology should be "Xlek". How cool is that?

Latest from Beppe Conti:

-Andy seems to be getting out of his own problems (drinking?) and being back on track properly so many teams would be interested; he's said to be leaving his actual team and have a big offer from Omega Pharma with his brother
-Visconti got offered a contract from Omega Pharma as well, as from Cannondale
-Cancellara asked for Malori
-Ulissi confirmed to Lampre
-Samuel Sanchez rumored to have an offer for end his career with Movistar colors

Hmm, Andy and Frank at OPQS, interesting idea. I don't hate it. With Uran also wanting to focus on GC at the Tour maybe they would go for Giro-Vuelta, I would like that. Still hope Andy stays with Trek for the moment though.

I like the idea of samu at Movistar, he should have left the carrots long ago.

Forgot to add that according to Beppe Wiggins is set to decide about his future only after the Worlds.
