Wondering if Tiago Machado will get back to the World Tour.

He has said he would. He grew with König this year as a leader. Maybe he should join him in his new team too for his own good.

he would be a terrible lead-out man since he can't plac ehimself at all

He can place himself. Hell, he's usually in great position. Just didn't become the sprinter he hoped...and sprints got A LOT more competitive over the past 3-4 years.

Would be a great super-dom on a big team.

Thanks. Also wondering what team it will be as last time I read about it, NetApp were keen on letting some major riders go in order to keep König. De La Cruz is gone, thought Machado would be next. Are you sure Leopold is leaving?

Big riders there:

Konig
Machado
Barta
Huzarski
Bennett
De La Cruz

Barta extended recently. Bennett is a neopro, so he has a two year contract and is cheap anyway. De La Cruz is gone. I don't know what Huzarski's status is. But he is probably not on big money anyway.

The problem with shipping out say Machado, De La Cruz, Huzarski to pay for a new contract for Konig is that they then can't offer him any support. If they can't hold on to him they should make keeping Machado a priority - they could offer him leadership in any race he wants as well as a WT salary. That's better than he'd get on a bigger team.

I'd prefer he stayed, with or without Konig. Better than him heading off to be mountain slave number five somewhere else.

there are nog big riders in netapp other than konig. I doubt any rider there makes more than 100.000 euros a year

Every one of them either really old, in decline, or pretty much done for. Then again, riders have often moved teams and had a resurgence in their careers, maybe Alonso's gambling he will be able to do this better then any team. It would be a hilarious WT team though. :D

Valverde is none of those things.

He's ranked #1 in the world UCI, CQ, and PCS rankings so certainly not done for.

34 is not really old in today's peloton.

He's ranked #1 and on his way to one of his best years ever so also not in decline.

I know, he's the only one of those riders listed that isn't. But it's already confirmed he's staying with Movistar next year.

I remember reading that he was staying in this thread, went back to look again, and looks like it's not completely confirmed yet. Found this link though.
"Now I’m not seeking time bonus in particular. In cycling, I love to win. Shall I win a stage, the time bonus will come along. It won’t change my future if I win the Vuelta or not, or if Nairo Quintana wins. It’s almost decided. I want to stay with the team.”

And I don't expect him to sign with anyone else. Nonetheless, if Valverde hasn't signed with Movistar for 2015 yet, Alonso definitely should be throwing everything he has at him to get his signature for himself.

Signature under Valverde's renewal is still missing but Unzué confirmed as well that the deal is as good as done.

alejandro must be waiting until after the ponferrada worlds. as the future rainbow jersey wearer for 2015, he's right to demand more money

Movistar are already struggling to keep him with his current demand. If he by any chance wins the world and increases his price, he will have to move team I believe.

Apparently MTN have taken Karel Hnik, who seems quite a promising rider with his win in the Tour d'Alsace and other high placings this year, as a trainee. Seems quite weird to not see him moving on towards OPQS, but they might just have too many riders right now that they want to keep.

That indeed is a surprise. I expected him and Wisniowski to join the pros. Maybe even Spokes, but not sure about that one. Bakala is giving the money and so far they only got 2 Czech riders. But maybe König will join the team. :p

Hirt and Hnik are strong riders and could help a lot of teams.
