Who the RedHeadDane?

Yeah. Didn't you know? I once had a promising career ahead of me but had to give it up. :p
(Think it might have been Anders Lund who was being referred to.)

Dunno if it actually counts as Transfer news, but Anders Lund is the new U23 couch for Denmark.

You're so Danish that you are even posting who is going to be the coach for an U23 team in an forum about international cycling. :D

Yup! :D
Besides, our U23 riders have been doing pretty well recently.

They always have. The problem is they rarely do anything as pros later.
Lund, Christensen, Steensen, Guldhammer...I could go on :)

On the other hand, Cort has been doing fairly well this year. :)
Probably because he didn't make the same mistake someone like Guldhammer did, and got a WT contract too early.
Hopefully Würtz Schmidt will turn out the same, having waited at least a year before going pro.

Not true, for the first eight years the category existed Danish u23s did nothing. Improvements came fast once the federation and trade teams like GLS started to organize and participate in more international races.

About the riders mentioned above Lund had one really good result as a junior, nothing as u23, was a solid pro with one excellent year (2010) that maybe promised more. He was never considered a future star. He is a super nice and intelligent individual and a good choice for u23 coach. Steensen had problems with injuries for his whole career and finally quit after last season. Guldhammer is 61st cq for points scored this year. Christensen was very gifted physically for GTs but probably wasn’t dedicated enough to go full on hard and also never found a director that believed in him. So it can be argued that he failed as a cyclist.

Still no actual facts suggests Danish cyclists have a higher fail rate than other nations' cyclists.

But blah blah whatever, I’m sure the ignorant will continue to repeat this cycling urban legend.

U-23 European Championships Silver Medal
U-23 Ronde Van Vlaanderen 5th
U-23 Liége-Bastogne-Liége 2nd

I stopped reading your post there. It was already so full of factual mistakes I didn't bother with the rest.

So the mistake is that he was in fact considered a future star because of secondary places in races won by Kevyn Ista, Frantisek Rabon and Martin Pedersen. Please bother to read on and find other factual mistakes and after that maybe even try with real arguments that can support the earlier claims.

RE Danes having trouble moving up from U23:

The way I understood it a part of the problem was that earlier they were basically just sent "out in the wild" all on their own. This resulted in situations in which they suddenly found themselves all alone far away from home somewhere in Southern Europe with - in some cases - literally nobody they could talk to.
However, one of the thinks Bennekou have been working with is maintaining the contact with the newly-turned-pro riders, and I assume Lund will be continuing that work.
Another thing there have been focus on is advising the riders when it'll be a good idea to get a pro contract, and not to go pro too early, to give a couple of recent examples:

Guldhammer:
Let's face it, it was too early for him to go pro back when he (first) did. (This might have been before Bennekou started). His "new start" with CULT have been doing pretty well.

Lander:
If I recall correctly Bennekou mentioned that he advised him against signing with BMC back when he did. He had to return home and is now he's about to start his "second attempt" at turning pro, with a smaller team.

Cort:
Was offered a contract with Garmin for 2014, decided to wait and has had a decent first season with Orica.

Würtz Schmidt:
Had plenty of offers after his World Championships win, is staying home until he's ready to turn pro.

S. Kragh:
Will actually have Bennekou as a DS on Giant next year, so he's covered.

So even if Danish riders in the past might have had a "higher fail rate", hopefully in the future they won't chew over more than they can bite and turn pro too early.
However, it might not so much be to Danish riders who have a higher fail rate, but more the Danish fans who have a higher hype rate.

Isn't the problem that the Danes are hothoused from an early age meaning an ok talent looks super good there because he'll be given all the benefits of pro training etc. A similarly talented kid in another country will look poor in comparison.

Stefan Schumacher has retired. Ivan Santaromita joins Skydive Dubai. Serpa joins Orgullo Antioqueno.

After Serpa, Santaromita and Beltran found teams, I make it that the only WT guys without contracts for 2016 are Vandewalle, Kamyshev Dyachenko, Bulgac, Schelling, D.Vanendert, Sutton, Flens, Lancaster, Sanz, Delage, Pozzato (probably going to Southeast) Anton and Nocentini (reported interest from Lampre/IAM/Caja Rural).

Anyone heard any other rumours on these guys?
