Doubt that Porte will end up at Orica due to its AIS connections and of course Orica is developing the Yates brothers and Chavez for GT's. In saying that doubt Chavez will make a GT rider, though Simon Yates is showing strong potential and Adam Yates needs more racing after injury.

Yates brothers just added 1 more year (2016) to their Orica contract
maybe Porte can re-up with Sky for 1 year, and in 2017 they swap Richie for the Yates brothers

That would be a bad deal for GreenEDGE, if that ever happened.

well, I did not mean swap like they give 2 and get 1 :D

but if the Yates go to Sky in 2017 (and Richie is still there in 2016) there are 2 spots in Orica's roster. Orica would be more than happy to win TDU and Paris-Nice. GT are not Richie's forte

Read in the other thread that Moreno wants a new team.

Definitely a rider Tinkoff Saxo should try to sign instead of Hernandez, Paulinho and Basso. Oh wait, Paulinho and Basso have contract for next year? And Hernadez will probably get a renewed contract with increased salary.

I think he will go to Caja Rural as a captain or maybe Cofidis. Leading a smaller pro-continental would be better for him than being on a big team. Otherwise, it has to be a smaller WT where he can be a leader for the GTs and in the classics like IAM.

Some talk about Porte going to BMC, it wouldn't surprise me.

If he does go to BMC, I really think he'd have to fit into the domestique role again. Porte will not unseat Van Garderen as that teams later, considering Porte's GT Reputation and the fact that TVG has finished 5th two times at the tour. If Porte were to become the Super Domestique for Van Garderen, however, it would significantly boost the chances of Van Garderen winning a GT at some point. TVG has no domestiques that are remotely close to that of Froome, Nibali, Contador and Quintana, if TVG does add Porte as his domestique, however, it could be a significant gain for him. In the end though, no chance Porte becomes BMC's leader at 30.

Van Garderen will not lead all 3 GTs in year so there's still a room for Porte to be someone more than domestique. BMC doesn't have many GC guys, so it wouldn't be impossible if Porte gets some freedom for GTs IMO.

Agreed, but he won't lead in the Tour de France. Porte will likely sit in the exact same role he sat in at Sky.

Not the Leader, but he could be the leader for Giro or Vuelta for them and probably they'd pay him well to be a superdom for TJ, he'd also be great for them in one week races.
The big problem would be the uncertain future of the team, if the rumours are true right now they are just offering one year contracts to every rider that the want to sign because of that.

I suspect that if the Yates brothers progress in 2016, that one of them will be lured to another team in 2017.

AIS connections would scuttle any move - No love lost b/w Porte and the OIS - And it would be a poor investment for OGE.

It's unlikely that OGE will need Porte by 2017. They are linked with Rob Power (2nd 2014 l'Avenir) and Jack Haig who can also climb a bit. If they want an Australian rider for GC in big one week tours, they would be more likely to go for Rohan Dennis. If either of the Yates brothers stay on past 2016, Porte to OGE seems even more unlikely.

If I was Porte I'd be getting on the phone to Lotto-Soudal.

I agree. But I think it's much too early to write off Chavez as a GC rider. There is more chance Porte will stay with Sky or move elsewhere. BMC I would say not unless he is willing to never ride the Tour as team leader and maybe not even as a domestique if they want him to lead at the Giro. I think Porte will be a hard fit for other teams because of the money he will want and also leadership aspirations. I will go out on a limb and say he will stay put and look for a better deal within Sky and hope that one year Froome will do the Giro/Vuelta or Porte himself will try the Giro again and play domestique in the Tour.

Chaves is 25 and so far it seems his engine is way too small for riding for GC in a Grand Tour. So far he only seems able to deliver a great performance in the very first big climbing day of a race. In following stages he just fades away into anonimity. Seems like a stretch to ever develop into a solid GC rider. And that's without considering his bad time trialing.

I'd say let's wait and see how the Vuelta goes. He was never targeting GC in the Giro. They've said all year that he would only be targeting GC at the Vuelta and the Giro would be about getting more experience and going for a stage.

Awesome and Thanks,

Huge boost to the Classics squad imo. With Stuyven, and the Van Poppels, TFR will have a much stronger squad in the spring. Thoughts?

Moreno to leave Katusha is almost given now and I don't think he will go back to Movistar.

New co-leader for at pro-conti team? Caja Rural? Cofidis? Europcar? Maybe IAM want another Spaniard?
