Movistar confirm the extension of 7 riders : Ion and Gorka Izagirre, Fran Ventoso, Imanol Erviti, Javi Moreno, José Joaquín Rojas and Dayer Quintana.

23 riders under contract for the next season, meaning that there will be little room for new signings. Nelson Oliveira seems sure. Betancur, Kudus and Valls based on rumours.

Like I said it probably means Benat is going to Sky. His role there is probably going to involve gluing Froome or Landa to his back wheel.

Did you feel your first post wasn't clear enough? :p

Considering how terrifying that's makes either Landa's Giro or Froome's Tour team it needs to be emphasized.

If he were to go WT then Lampre would be the most likely, since they like looking at Slovenia for options and Liquigas are no more. He seems to be another of those masters of the small race, ProConti surely the right level for him, as he deserves better than Adria Mobil (unless they somehow get a huge injection of cash to keep him and Roglič, which seems unlikely) but struggled to adapt at WT. An Italian ProConti team like Southeast or Androni might work well for him as well.

Fully agree. CCC or an Italian ProConti team was my idea as well. Agree that Lampre would be the most likely WT team, and also IMO the best choice for Kump if he wanted to go back to WT.

I know this was confirmed a long time ago but what do you think of Theuns to Trek?
His current season reminds a lot of Van Asbroeck last season with lot of placings and few wins in Europe tour races resulting in a CQ ranking with like 1000 points. Obviously he'll be a domestique in the WT classics unlike Van Asbroeck who was hired to win races but I still wonder if he has what it takes for the WT level

I don't really get how a guy who complains about not having leadership role in big stage races (although he actually get the chance to be the leader in the Giro) would go to Sky and bury himself for others. And it also applies to others (e.g. Konig)

There's a rumour Marko Kump will ride for Sky next season. Nothing certain, only a rumour for now.

He's a prolific top 10-er, except for the two seasons he spent at Tinkoff. I'm not sure who it works for.

He gets most of his wins with Adria Mobil in European .2 races and the Asian .HC races.

Benat to Sky looking a bit more likely.

I remember reading an interview with Intxausti where he said he was looking for opportunties to lead at some important races (one week WT races) if he was to leave Movistar. Sky seems like just about the worst fit for that desire. There's every chance that whole Izagirre x2/Intxausti to Sky talk was completely bogus and merely leaked by their agent (I believe they all have the same one) to push up their value on the market.

Seems like it will be:

IN: Landa Moscon Peters Van Poppel Golas Intxausti Kwiatkowski

OUT: Earle Eisel Pate Zandio Porte

@ Team Sky

Would leave them with the maximum 30

Phil Deignan renews for 2 years
:)

Deignan's a pretty good climber. At Sky he appears to be more of a back-up/reserve rider for their Grand Tour squads though whereas he could be very handy for someone like Dumoulin at Giant for instance. I guess money talks.

I think he would get a chance at some 2.HC and 2.1 races (Oman, Coppi Bartalli, Langkawi for example). By the way how do you keep Benat, Landa, Kwait, Thomas & Froome all happy if your Sir Dave?

He understandably wants better opportunities than that. Intxausti would be the 2nd or 3rd best GC rider at most WT teams. At Sky he'd have Froome, Landa, Thomas, Konig, Kwiatkowski and Sergio Henao ahead of him. Then there's the likes of Nieve, Poels and Roche who are at a similar level to him.

So to answer your question, Brailsford wouldn't be able to keep Intxausti happy unless they were paying him more than any other team wanted to pay him.

I don't think Konig, Kwiatkowski or Henao will lead any stage races for Sky next year. As all three will be key parts of the Landa/Froome climbing trains, with Kwiatkowski leading in the Ardennes. Sky did lose a couple of big deals in Wiggins and Porte so I wouldn't rule it out.

I don't think this is a good match. Trek failed to develop riders. But maybe he can deliver if Cancellara is out again but then I think he will need at least a year to adapt. I even think Lotto NL would have been better for him.

They are all better stage racers than Intxausti so if they won't lead any stage races at Sky next year (I disagree btw) what chance would Intxausti have?

You make a good point. Because there are so many 1.1 races available for the Belgian Pro-Conti riders it is relatively easy to rack up a number of good results. On the other hand, someone like Lampaert at Etixx has adapted much better than Van Asbroeck this season.

Talking of Trek, PCS have stated that Calvin Watson hasn't been offered a contract extension and will be leaving the team. No surprise really.

back home with Budget Forklift or similar (like Gossy should do)?
More likely Avanti or Drapac. A little disappointed that he didn't get another year, Watson didn't set the world on fire but he wasn't out of his depth either. Someone will grab him.
