Astana are apparently in pole position to sign Sagan?
Yep is about biggest offer+his brother with him.Better support for classics?Fxxk that!Give me money and I will try win something if not at least I will do some wheelie :D

No the Kazakh economy is down the pisser, if they're having to privatise their Trains, then they aren't going to buy Peter And Juraj Sagan are they???
lol. astana is not dependant on the kazakh ecnomy. it's dependant on vinokourov staying alive. he's a god in his country. they will never stop his team as long as he's alive.

Actually their budget comes from the state owned Kazakh oil company which has gone down the toilet so yes they do

you don't understand much do you?

the money comes from whatever seems fit. should the kazakh oil company not be able to fund it, then the government will appoint another "sponsor" to step in. what it borders down to is that the kazakh government pay for this and will pay for this for as long as vino is there.

They can't afford too at anywhere near the same level as the government's debt is rated as junk and the sovereign wealth fund is $20 billion in the red. The team will face a likely severe budget cut.

They've even cut the Expo's budget, by far their biggest project to gain more prestige, by 140 million $, so it wouldn't surprise me if they'd cut Astana's budget by a significant amount.

Nice! I wonder who they would retain. Obviously Sagan seems out, but what about the other eastern riders, I wonder.

I do understand you're just wrong, my Dad works frequently works in Kazakhstan and I don't think yoh understand the state of the economy, outside Astana, the country is falling apart, even the small macro economic effect of 20 million could well be cut back, I think you overestimate how much of a hero Vino is

we will see. I'm 100% confident they don't cut their budget at all.

I believe 5 Tinkoff riders have a contract beyond 2016 - Sagan x2, Majka and neo-pros Gogl and Baška. Of course, if Tinkoff team would stop to exist those contracts would be void, but not if someone buys the licence.
Oleg asked (IIRC) 6 mln for the licence. That seems a bit too much to ask from a sponsor on top of the annual sponsor money, unless the sponsor is a filthy rich individual, but I doubt it. And no way Alberto can pay that out of his own pocket.
Perhaps Oleg will offer him a discount or even give him the licence for free, but that doesn't seem very Oleg-y.
Of course, there is another option: buy the licence for however much Oleg is asking, this way save money on staff, cars and whatever else is necessary, and then allow other teams to buy out the remaining contracts. Sagan wants to take his brother and Baška to a different team, so the three of them could get them a big chunk of the cost for the licence. They could also let someone buy out Majka, and keep Gogl as I don't think he'll be very popular on the market :p
Either way, I think if the Contador/Basso team happens several riders of the current Tinkoff team will be offered a contract.

I think buying the IAM licence would be cheaper by the way :p

Contador can easily pay that amount. Of course he shouldn't, but he definitely "can" buy it.

Sagan to Astana. Please tell me this is a f...ing joke

no no, I do hope it´s true. Specialized will NEVER let him ride other bikes. so either Astana or Etixx. and Etixx are fine with their classic men. Stybar, Vakoc, Alaphilippe, Boonen (if he stays)

I really hope Sagz signs for Astana
They've had to lay off 3% of there workforce and Astana are likely looking at a huge budget cut as the Kazakh is in the toilet. How can they afford this? Unless there trying to use him as a carrot to convince Brailsford to ditch Pinarello.

Pinarello-Sky current contract ends on Dec 31st 2016 (no news if it´s been prolonged)

Well...

When Cavendish joined Sky there were rumors that Specialized would follow him and supply bikes to the team, which of course didn't happen.

British Cycling last year ended with Pinarello and went with Cervelo instead.

Just a couple of points which probably don't add up to much - just thought I'd mention them.

It's an interesting point I can't remember where j saw it but when Sky ditched Rapha, it was reported that Under Armour, Asos or even a Nike comeback was on the cards, and Dave B was up for changing bike manufacturers apparently Specialized, Cervelo or Bianchi are on the cards who knows?

Equally interesting and exciting.

Where did you hear this might I ask?
Gazzetta reported that Alberto and Basso will start a team for next season, Alberto will ride for this team and there should be news before the Tour. But I don't know if that report said anything about Tinkoff's licence.

Yes, read about the Alberto and Basso link-up, but the bit I've bolded, Tinkov's licence, is news to me. Perhaps there will be something concrete soon?

That's ASSOS btw, not Asos, unless Sky are going to be kitted out by River Island and Ralph Lauren. ;)

I seem to recall that also about Sky changing bike manufacturer. Who knows as you say?

You're right sorry I always get the 2 confused. Yeh it will be interesting to see they've got rid of Rapha and Jaguar so maybe Pinarello are next who knows? Only Dave B I guess

Specialized to supply Sky and Pinarello to supply Contador/Basso?

it would seem strange.
but it would be fun. specialized has a love/hate relation with fans, and them signing with Sky would make funny reactions
and Pinarello could go back to total love response, after a few years with Sky :p

There's still Look who signed an exclusive contract to partner with Alonso in case he creates a team. No clue if they still got the cash & desire to support a big team again.

Look sponsors the Contador junior and U23 teams.
I think any Contador team would be more likely to have them as a sponsor than Specialized, who abandoned the Fundacion project last year.

Posted in stage thread but may as well add it here because it's fun to think about even if it is garbage.

Beppe Conti on Rai just now: Contador for one year to Trek-Segafredo, then Aru will go there and Segafredo will take over sponsorship so it becomes an Italian team. Also Dumoulin to Etixx-QuickStep

The Dumoulin thing sounds weird. Those Segafredo rumors sound very plausible though.

Contador to Trek-Segafredo would be cool, I want to see a "how's that coffee Contador?" commercial for Segafredo. :D
I don't know if it's true, but they have the money and he'd have enough strong climbing support, Fränk Schleck riding for Contador would be pretty sweet.
Dumoulin to Etixx, I don't know if that will happen.
