Also could another team step up a level next year?

Well the alleged Bahrain and Riis projects could both use some "startup" riders. Between IAM and Tinkoff, there's enough for both.

As for moving up, ONE is the only pro conti team I'm sure want to become WT. They do a nice line in Poles and antipodeans, so I can't see them minding a new Swiss backbone to the team. I don't know about other pro conti teams.

bora-argon wants to become WT. that should be even easier now.

Brändle, Coppel, Denifl, Devenyns, Enger, Frank, Howard and Pantano are surely WT material.
Don't forget Haussler. 2 x top10 in monuments this year.

Yes they could certainly bulk up their squad with WT level domestiques, mostly German speakers, on the cheap. And they do need to do that if they are really going WT. But what they are really missing if they are going to compete at a higher level is a couple of leaders and they won't get any of those at IAM.

Bora apparently want Rosa to lead them in stage racing. Bennett and Pelucchi for sprints would be respectable enough. You can easily imagine them having Braendle.

Sagan and Astana : Will we stop reading on Facebook: Sagan's what cycling needs. :D

Doesn't mean much yet.

There was pretty much the exact same 'in negotiations' story about Sagan and Trek only last month, and shortly before that, there was plenty of talk of Sagan being linked to Etixx. All just Giovanni Lombardi ensuring he gets the best deal for his client, I guess.

Some weeks ago, Madiot said that he wouldn't be against Gilbert returning, but he'll need some extra funds.

Sagan to Astana. Please tell me this is a f...ing joke

no no, I do hope it´s true. Specialized will NEVER let him ride other bikes. so either Astana or Etixx. and Etixx are fine with their classic men. Stybar, Vakoc, Alaphilippe, Boonen (if he stays)

I really hope Sagz signs for Astana

They've had to lay off 3% of there workforce and Astana are likely looking at a huge budget cut as the Kazakh is in the toilet. How can they afford this? Unless there trying to use him as a carrot to convince Brailsford to ditch Pinarello.

Pinarello-Sky current contract ends on Dec 31st 2016 (no news if it´s been prolonged)

Agreed. We have been talking about Astana budget cut, even folding rumours and now Sagan ? Please don't. I just can't believe it and don't want it but that's personnal.

No the Kazakh economy is down the pisser, if they're having to privatise their Trains, then they aren't going to buy Peter And Juraj Sagan are they???

If Sagan does indeed sign for Astana, I can't see Astana trying to sign Contador as well, which was speculated. Their budget can't be infinite.

lol. astana is not dependant on the kazakh ecnomy. it's dependant on vinokourov staying alive. he's a god in his country. they will never stop his team as long as he's alive.

Seriously, 10-20m or so to run a cycling team (hell, even 5 times that) has zero effect on macroeconomy of a country.
It is a simple balance of income from promoting the country and the cost of that promotion. Economic conditions hardly have effect on that

which is why i think astana would be a good team, they can pay his paycheck and since they are nationaly supported team they will also have the funds to hire better supporting cast if they choose so...whats a million extra in budget for a country?
