That could be Poels's chance. He has wanted to lead Sky in the Giro for a couple of years now.

Nibali to win the Giro and the Landa is released for the Tour!Red Rick said:What the Bahrein move or the Astana move. Neither are teams where he'd be likely to lead the Giro after the season he had this year.
Why? Nibali surely wants to do the Giro. He has shown no interest in the Tour at all since 2015, and leaving Astana he has all the freedom to do whatever he wants, especially as the sponsor is his friend. Landa will do the Tour and go for stage wins and the KoM, or a good GC performance. Visconti has already basically confirmed Nibali's presence, and with the Giro probably going to Messina it would basically be treason if he doesn't go. There is no reason for the system to always be when there are two good GC guys that the number 1 goes to the Tour and no 2 to the Giro. This mentality (exacerbated in part by Sky) undermines and belittles the Giro. I think Netserk is right.staubsauger said:I told ya!Mayomaniac said:Beppe Conti even talked about him returning to Astana, but that's probably just some Beppe Conti BS.pablopaul said:Rumors of Landa not seeing out Sky contract and going to Bahrain. Movistar would be the ideal destination, though!
If Landa goes to Bahrein I conclude it means that Nibali rides the Tour again, Landa leads them at the Giro and Bahrein secures a world tour spot for 2017.

Decent, is consistently in or around the top 20 in GCs, and usually does it helping someone else (Uran, Hesjedal). Not as strong as the likes of Poels, but will almost definitely be there when the peloton is only 15 man strong.LaFlorecita said:Interesting signing. Thanks, so he is very consistent, that's goodBrullnux said:Decent, is consistently in or around the top 20 in GCs, and usually does it helping someone else (Uran, Hesjedal). Zinoviev Letter said:I agree with Anderis assessment. Cardoso is the epitome of a what you see is what you get rider. He rides at his level every time. He's not good enough to win races, but he is always one of the best 20 or so climbers in every race he is in. His skillset is what it is: no explosivity, no good at anything except climbing, but he can stick around until late on day after day.
He's an old school career domestique and will rarely do anything that gets screen time, but he's a very useful addition to any squad. He always shows up to work and he never, ever, places his own ambitions ahead of his leader because he doesn't have any ambitions of his own. I really like the guy and I hope he's finally getting a chance to ride the Tour.

He was 54 seconds behind Elissonde, I wouldn't call that close.Ricco' said:Anderis said:He has never come close to winning even from a breakaway at a WT level.
Angliru 2013. Second from the break, only after Elissonde. Arrived with the GC guys (I think he was caught by the Nibali group right in the finish).
Anderis said:Cardoso is really, really consistent rider. Started in 7 GTs, finished all of them in the top25 overall. In the last 4 or 5 years he finished pretty much his every race with decent amount of climbing inside top50.
