Just to clarify I meant that most teams would happily, if they had the money, sign Contador for a large sum of money.
Yeah, I think you're right. Even if he can't win the Tour anymore, he can still win stages and other races and he guarantees a lot of media exposure. He's not worth 5 million anymore (and I doubt he even gets that much at Tinkoff these days) but definitely a million or two

I can see why teams would pay good money to have Contador on baord even if he's a declining force, you are absolutely correct that he's still one of the biggest drawcards in cycling and the cameras will always be looking for him in the peloton which sponsors love, also if he has actually signed a contract with Trek (I'm still doubtful) then he's certainly worth big $$$ to Trek as they want big names on their bikes.

Quick Question: Might Zdenek Bakala be interested in Kreuziger?

It is clear that due to his bad reputation and his past Clinic related issues he was left out of the Rio squad even though he won the Czech title today and he probably has the best chance of winning among the Czech riders.

Actually he was left out because he and Czech Cycling Team agreed to be it this way. He said today in press that he would not be able to prepare for Tour, Olympics and Vuelta at the same time. So no connection to "bad reputation".

And what else did you expect them to say?

It's either a deal with UCI/WADA to keep him out or they don't want him on a team because of his past performances where he forgot that is not riding for team Kazakhstan.

After all, half the Rio participants will be riding the Tour and Vuelta.

Just think about it. The Rio route is suited 100% to his style and he will skip it to get ready for Vuelta? Gimme a break!

Thanks a lot for the clarification!

While he obviously won't retire in 3 days, he will retire his Tour de France winning ambitions not in 3 days, but 3 weeks.
How can you be sure? I've been finding jens' news pretty reliable so far. And the fact he's silent after the claim, I'd address to the state of shock.

Sorry, Flo.
It wasn't me who launched the rumour. I'm just helping it to spread.
It's so obvious that jens wasn't serious. and if you're just "spreading the rumor", why are you posting it as a fact?
That's the way to spread the rumour. No one would believe if I'd emphasise it's a rumour.
Sorry, but he shouldn't be joking about that. Someone could take it seriously.
... Or, at least, insist on it.

Bora Team Manager Ralph Denk rejects the idea that Specialized is about to bring Peter Sagan along. But they are going to present the new additional German sponsor on Thursday and Bora intends to hire about six new guys with someone like Tony Martin or John Degenkolb on the top of the wish list.

I hope that´s true. Bora and Argon18 are a nice team as they are now. I wouldnt want to see Specy and Sagan come along.

But they do need to bring in some more talent if they want to compete at WT level, Sagan would certainly give them a big profile but he would also monopolize the wage budget which would hurt the team overall

Sagan would not hurt any current ProConti team overall, even if signing him cost them so much of their budget that they had to let all of their current leaders go. Not that it's relevant as it seems that Bora's new budget does not stretch to one of the biggest stars in the sport anyway.

It will be interesting to see who they are going to sign. "Someone like Tony Martin or John Degenkolb" is a rather meaningless thing to have at the top of a wishlist. The only thing they have in common is being German. Obviously either would be a big addition, but luring either would not be easy unless the new sponsor is providing them with money to pay over their market value. A plan to sign six new riders also doesn't necessarily provide us with much information. Presumably the six will be riders who are better than their current average rider, but there's a lot of room between improving their current level and actually being competitive at the world tour level. They could for instance pick up a bunch of guys from IAM and improve but not by much.

The issue for them is leaders. They can provide decent enough support for a WT level but not outright favourite level leader at most disciplines. But other than Bennett they've nobody to provide that support for.

I bet Heinrich Haussler will be one of those riders

According to La Gazzetta, Sagan and Majka will join Bora in 2017.

I guess that means also Bodnar, Poljanski, Juraj Sagan and probably Baska/Kolar will join them.

He would say that at the moment no matter how much truth is in those rumours.
