Seems like Lachlan Morton signed with Dimension Data.

Interesting. You wouldn't happen to have a link for that, would you? Thanks.

Ben King, Scott Thwaites and Lachlan Morton join Dimension Data for 2017

I'm really surprised that King has left Cannondale. Kind of rider who you think is good enough to stay in his current team but not really good enough to have plenty of better offers on the table. I wonder what was the reason for that move.

Sagan's team looks rather "meh" ATM if Thwaites is not staying.

It will be also interesting to see if Morton has learned something since his last WT try.

I suppose that Dimension Data have more need for a competent but unspectacular climbing domestique than Cannondale does and so he's worth more to the former.

I agree entirely about Thwaites. That's a big loss to Bora and in particular to Sagan. I presume that Thwaites, having only recently stepped into the ranks of fringe cobbled contenders isn't ready to accept being a full time domestique until he sees how much further he can develop. Boassan Hagen, I would guess, can't command the sort of automatic absolute team leader status that Sagan can, so Thwaites could get a free role. Bora urgently need to sign another quality classics rider to help Sagan though - it makes little sense to spend an absolute fortune on a leader and then balk at spending a much smaller amount of money on domestiques who can help maximise the leader's return.

Morton, well, I'd guess the issue is whether he's ready to settle down and knuckle down or if he just doesn't have the right personality for the pro game.

Thwaites is also a good addition to Cav's train.

Yes, like most cobbled specialists he doubles pretty well as a big lump domestique.

I don't think Bora used him much as a sprint helper, but that's because their "train" has usually been two or three guys to put Bennett in position rather than an attempt to take over the front of the race. DD on the other hand would have a use for his horsepower.

Kind of a flop move from Thwaites though, having said he'd definitely be WT next year.

To be fair, that's not why DD are signing him. Its because Morton is on, he's one of the 2-3 absolute best climbers not racing the WT.

What's with Jan Hirt? Huge climbing talent but no news on him.

Game over for him. (unless he will win Il Lombardia this weekend  )

He will be 26 in January, with limited experience from major races and zero grand tours in his legs, it's too late to turn him into a WT climber.

He had the chance to take over the leader position from Rebellin, but he failed.

Why would it be game over? Someone will sign the Tour of Austria winner.

I think you're too harsh. Look at Michael Woods. He definetely belongs to the WT level with this year's results and he was almost 28 when he participated in a WT race for the first time.

TJ Sports, Bahrain, AG2R, LottoNL etc. There are certainly enough teams that could need an additional rider like Hirt and still could offer him a decent paycheck!

Wanty's a decent option as well. If they plan to race some bigger races next year someone like Hirt would be a good candidate for mountain breakaways.
