Are they allowed to make that public? Thought it was only after August 1.
Or are "graduations" - so to speak - within the same organisational structure essentially seen as a form of contract-prolonging insofar as the rider is still on contract with the same overall organisation, just on a higher level.

Doesn't the rule about making a transfer public being allowed only after August 1 apply only if the transfer is between two professional teams?

Neo-pro deals are being announced much earlier than that on regular basis if my memory serves me right.

A year ago there was a big argument here about whether surprise at him getting a WT contract after a couple of unremarkable years at PCT level reflected anglophone chauvinism. I remember arguing that the current Brajkovic would make a perfectly decent leader of a Conti team...

What made me tired was how Brajkovic (repeated this year with Magnusson) was singled out as someone considered not worthy of a place on a good team. Most teams have mediocre riders anyway, the marginal ten-fifteen percent that could be replaced by others hungrier and with more talent from lower categories if teams were mainly concerned with being as strong as possible. But teams of course also have other concerns and one important concern is to have riders from where the team is from. Some times here and elsewhere the term 'world tour level' is used to describe a cyclist's skill and talent. Then when a team drops someone they can be described as 'not world tour level'. But it's a meaningless not-defined term. Obviously not everyone can get sufficiently good results, be connected enough, have famous relatives or is able to pay for themselves and teams have a limited number of places each year. My simple claim then is that in addition to those factors there is chance inequality due to nationality. It's pretty easy to become pro for someone from Australia or the Netherlands if they show just a little and nearly impossible for someone from Romania or Hungary even if they show a lot of talent.

As you have noted before it's not about teams from english speaking nations, dutch and french teams etc privilege riders from their country as well but it's more egregious and weird with the NES teams because there seems to be always seven+ teams to go through ready to save any random NES cyclist who has been unlucky for a couple of years. In contrast there is just one Gorazd Stangelj and signing Janez Brajkovic was justified to me because he has been a strong rider once and it was not crazy to think he could be valid help if not back to his old best level.

The discussion about Brajkovic was almost as weird as when Nairo Quintana was singled out as a 'suspicious' rider by the Ameriacan commentators after winning Pais Vasco, because they wanted to come across as 'critical journalists'.

Brajkovic has podiumed a monument and won the freakin' Dauphiné. Yes, it's quite a few years ago, but there are always gonna be teams that will take a chance on him with those results.
I hope he gets back on track with Adria Mobil. Should be a good fit for him. They do a lot of climb-heavy races.

Great to see Lobato find a new team. He is a unique rider with his amazing uphill sprint and it would be a big shame if he had to stop. Nippo should also be a great team for him to get his career restarted. Plenty of italian one-day races that will suit a rider like Lobato perfect, who is not that different in his qualities from a rider like Colbrelli that has dominated the Italian races, and given how well a fairly mediocre and also a bit similar rider like Canola could succeed with Nippos race-schedule last season Lobato could well do just as well and make a great comeback.

Glad to see Laboto find a team to continue with. Glad a team was willing to give him a 2nd chance (esp since what he was taking is not a WADA banned substance). Not at all surprised it's at this level and not WT. It should be a good way to get his racing back on track.

According to HLN - "A necessary recruitment, because due to the (long-term) injuries of Devenyns, De Plus, Vakoc and Gaviria it was not easy to get a complete team for all races."

Reading through QS press release, the team already interested in him and invited him to January training camp... So the injuries of the 4 riders mentioned above just hasten the process I think.
