According to LA Gazzetta both Aru and Dan Martin will go to UAE (annd Viviani, but that's pretty much old news).
L'Équipe recently reported that they'll get a really big budget for 2018, around 30 millions.

I suppose that if they have that kind of budget, they can pay Aru and Martin enough to put up with shared leadership in some big races.

Where the hell is Katusha spending the money?

Alpecin shampoos.

If their rumoured budget is even close to the truth, they give the worst results-per-dollar return of any team including perennial overspenders Cofidis.

Katusha would not be the first Russian team spending its money "elsewhere". It's quite obvious that they don't.

Aren't Rui Costa and Meintjes also leaders? Though obviously not as good.

Martin is the top GC guy at QS. Not sure if it's wise for Martin to move to UAE, he may not get the leadership role at the tour.
Meintjes to go back to Dimension Data?

Cort will join Astana in 2018 according La Gazzetta.

Kristoff leadout train I guess.

Don't think so, Cort has already won GT stages, and got his first feel for the classics this year. - He will be looking to ride his own chance... and many peg him as the next generation Matthews/Sagan-type rider..... Not quite a pure sprinter, an adequate climber, and a really good puncheur. If Astana indeed sign him, they will not pigeon hole him as a lead out.

Also, if Kristoff joins Astana, he will probably bring Moerkoev as his lead out man, and they already have Valgren, who is one of the biggest motors in the peloton, for the run in to the last Km, and Breschel for the 1 km mark to 500m.

Btw, with Valgren, Kristoff, Cort, Lutsenko, Moerkoev and Breschel, Astana is starting to build a pretty strong classics squad, apparently under the leadership of danish DS Lars Michaelsen (not a coincidence they are picking up so many danes - and a norwegian ;))

Meintjes to go back to Dimension Data?

But then, imagine what Martin could do, with a real GC team backing him up in the mountains.....

He has 3-4 years left at top level.... if he wants to go for a GT win, he cannot stay with QSF, no matter how fond he is of the team.

If QSF is not willing to bring in 2 top climbers, to assist Martin in the mountains at the GTs he ride, he will have to jump ship IMHO.

If Dan Martin wants to win a GT, he needs to do the Vuelta, period.

Yeah, and the mountains in the giro would be too tough for Dumoulin ;)

You never know dude.... when you can ride top 5 without the slightest bit of help, you can also win if you have a team supporting the effort, rather than constantly being 2 km down the mountain.

Any rumours about who Bahrain are going to sign? Surely they're not going to offer all their money to Boonen and Purito again :p

Nieve to Orica seems like an odd one. Won't get any GT leadership there.
Nieve doesn't want or expect GT leadership. He's never really had it except by proxy where the team has no better rider for the role and a low end top 10 is the sum of expectations, like at latter-day Euskaltel in races Samu wasn't doing. He can work as a top domestique for Chaves or one of the Yates twins, the latter have mostly used following as their tactic to date in GTs as they learn their levels but they're going to graduate beyond that soon, hopefully. But also, if the GC leaders are happy to be left to their own devices and test themselves following others, Nieve will have a bit of stagehunting freedom that riders like him will only ever get at Sky in the second half of the Giro after the inevitable abandon of their planned leader.

Good points. Presumptious of me to assume his motives, I just figured such a consistent high level climber would have no shortage of offers, and surely smaller team leadership would be an option. Orica could field a pretty serious looking GC line up next year, their transition has been impressive.

All top level riders receive leadership opportunities at Orica - Immediately I could see the TDU and at least one of the spanish one week stage races - Nieve is also a handy additiion as if GC goes pear-shaped, he can switch to stage hunting or KOM.

Will Michal Kwiatkowski stay with Sky next year - any rumours?
He could be GC leader on many teams.
