If a team got Michal Kwiatkowski to be a GC leader I will immediately reconsider my life decisions and become a DS instead.

Spanish journalist Javier Ares of radio broadcaster Onca Cero says that the move of Mikel Landa to Movistar is practically a done deal.

"The negotiations between Movistar and Mikel Landa are very advanced," Ares said.

"Landa will ride for Movistar in the next seasons. This is practically a closed deal and may be announced to the public once the last details have been sorted," he added.

Sounds like a good move for Mikel, Movistar and the Giro!

Landa gets undisputed team leadership and decent lieutenants for the Tour of Italy with Anaconda, Soler, Fernandez, Amador, Castroviejo etc. pp.

I feel like the GT landscape for next year is gonna be hugely affected by which team Quintana is going to (or staying at) next year.

He will stay at Movistar, or thats the most likely anyways.

Bad move for Landa. If anything goes wrong at the Giro (and he's no stranger to things going wrong), what will happen? Does he expect to lead elsewhere? Will we hear him whining again about having other riders above him in the hierarchy?

He's certainly no.1 for the Giro and co-leader for the Vuelta at Movistar. No matter whether Quintana targets the Tour for Movistar or Astana. Valverde gonna be out for half the season and afterwards he's 38 years old already. There ain't no better choice for Landa than Movistar at this point. He becomes their no.1 Spanish rider now after Valverdes injury. Landa regularly trains in the Picos de Europa rather than the Pyrenees so Unzue & can closely follow and assist him there. Also he's gonna lead them already at some preparation races like Valenciana, Ruta del Sol, T-A instead of being forced to assist someone like Thomas which makes his build-up towards the Giro a bit easier and more effective probably. Landa simply needs to avoid illnesses and misfortunes. Then he's the no. 1 favorite for the 2018 Giro. Even with Dumoulin in it. After he has been 3rd and won the blue jersey everything Mikel cares about is finally getting the pink jersey. Movistar is the best team for him in that matter. When was the last time Lampe prepared a GC guy properly? Simoni in 2005!

Barguil is rumoured to leave Sunweb. He has a contract with Sunweb for next year, but implies that he wants to leave the team. Team manager Iwan Spekenbrink also seems open to the idea of letting Barguil go if Sunweb can reach an agreement with another team.

Fortuneo-Oscaro and Jerome Pineaus new team are mentioned as possible destinations. Team Sky and Astana have also shown interest.

Eduardo Sepulveda to Movistar.

Barguil to Fortuneo
say what? that's a step back!

In my opinion if you want to return to a French team the best for him would be the FDJ ... Pinot leader in gir0 and him in the Tour ... Because in AG2R would have to work for Bardet, and still Vital was better than fortuneo because For 2019 wants to climb to the WT, but better than all this was to think about the proposal of Astana, because on Sky goes to work for Froome and in the Sunweb or has to work for Domulin or not to go to the tour, because Domulin for the year will attack The victory of the tour!

This thread would be far more useful if people make clear what they are posting:

- actual FACTS about transfers
- just rumours about transfers

... and their sources for both.

How can Movistar afford Valverde and Quintana and Landa, plus good domestiques?

If Nairo stays this is a bad move for Landa.

I tried to institute such a policy last year, but people DGAF, sadly.

I don' think it is a bad move. He wants to lead a team, Valverde is getting towards the end of his career and there are three GTs per season. If he doesn't lead the team at the Giro it will happen at the Vuelta. I am sure that team leadership was part of his contract negotiations.

So it might be be that Aru actually stays with Astana after all. Landa becomes the new leader at Movistar. While Quintana goes to Fly Emirates!?

Well Quintana has a contract for 2018 right? Buying out contract is very expensive, so i doubt Astana or Sky would do it, because the price is too steep for what they get. UAE have a lot of money to throw around and I imagine they're quite desperate to sign some top names.

Plus Movistar might be quite happy to receive a big paycheck for Quintana and focus on the 2018 Giro with Landa. Which on paper actually looks like a more certain gt win for them, than Quintana at the 2018 Tour.

So it makes sense to me. As well that Aru prefers to stay with his father figure at Astana. I wouldn't understand at all why he leaves their facilities just to strike some big cash. He needs a team that takes care of him.

They have some budget to spend with the departure and compensation for Ion Izaguirre and the departure of Visconti and G.Izagirre. Furthermore it's not sure if D.Moreno and Castroviejo will stay on board.
