I read on another site of a cycling podcast rumour of Michaels Woods possibly signing with Team Sky as he has siad he cannot afford to sit and wait for an outcome. Also, there was mention of Dylan Van Baarle possibly headed there, too. Perhaps it is all speculation given this is the time of year for rumours to float, however, if there is any truth in either of them, can someone familiar with Van Baarle tell me what his strengths are? Would he simply be another domestique? Thanks for your imput.

van Baarle is a classics contender, having top-10s in the Tour of Flanders this season and last. He also time-trials well enough.

Woods would be a good fit with Sky.

It's a minor transfer but a funny one: Maxime Bonsergent goes to l'Armée de Terre. :D
If i'm right in thinking, he was the rider who snapped his derailleur and lost his shoe while fighting for the win with the British trio at the junior cx world champs?

How does that happen? I thought cycling shoes were pretty... form-fitting... if that's the right word. Or, are cross shoes somehow different?

you know when your wellies get stuck in the mud and when tryingg to get lose your foot comes out and your rubber boot is still stuck in the mud?

He broke the cleat or the strap/lace meaning it would come off running with the broken bike, so he stuffed in his skinsuit. It then fell out of his skinsuit and just left it and ran on.

Woods would be a good fit with Sky.

It would be a bit of a shame to see him settle for a domestique's career before we have even seen what his upper limit is.

And given that we haven't seen what he's capable of yet, it's tough to say he's a "good fit", other than he speaks the same language.

Trek would probably be a better fit for him, leader or at least co-leader for the Ardennes and Giro-Vuelta.
If Cannondale goes down they could sign 3-4 guys with the Contador money, something like him, Dombrowski as a climbing domestiqe and maybe Carthy would be pretty good.

Sky spent big money on De La Cruz who's now a worse climber than Puccio lol

Porte had and Poels still has his "one bad day" during every GT too, so nothing new for Sky. Or look at Henao at the Tour this year who couldn't even follow Kwiatkowski on one day. But as long as everyone else in the train does their job everyone can have their bad day during the three weeks. ;)

This is the transfer thread, not yet another thread about Team Sky bullies.

What an unnecessary comment.

You should know, you made about 5000 of them.

It is still a discussion. Someone questioned the move from De La Cruz to Sky and I just answered with an explanation as to why it is still a good pickup for them. So all those posts where still about transfers.

Andrew Talansky announced his retirement. Very early in a career that didn't see the progression he might have hoped for, but which was still pretty good.

That is extremely surprising. I always liked the guy, even though injuries and other misfortune pretty much stagnated his career.

Yes, let's discuss the form, progress and team role of every rider that makes a transfer in this thread. Makes total sense.

I'm stunned by Talansky's decision. He's best years are basically still to come at 28?

Is there something else?

It's hard to know his reasons, but he never appeared to enjoy the pressure to perform that came with being one of the main US prospects and he may have come to the conclusion that if he wasn't likely to get much better it wasn't worth the struggle. With Cannondale in trouble, he might have to settle for less money or opportunities and also I think he has just had a kid. It's a bit out of left field, but not entirely inexplicable.
