Chris Froome, Stephen Cummings, Geraint Thomas, Russell Downing, Peter Kennaugh and Ian Stannard are SKY's first 6 riders. Hardly world shattering stuff there.

I may be crazy...but I don't think Lovkvist is going to Sky...I just have a feeling...or maybe I am just hoping?

Nope. But considering each of their life stories so far, probably something right out of a mexican soap opera script.

Maybe Rasmussen has something to say about that as well. He is a self-acclaimed connoisseur of telenovelas, a skill he apparently learned after he was sidelined for 2 yrs...

On to a different topic.

Ekimov to RS as team mngr and since my bridge to Rasmussen is still piping hot, i'll use it to the full extent. Theo de Rooij continues to be linked to Astana.

I'm disappointed...didn't want Lovkvist to go to Sky...otherwise no surprises.

Oh for crying out loud..

They are only confirming the Six british riders at the moment.. Although the columbia guys have been confirmed by Bob Stapleton...

"Over the following months they will be joined in Team Sky by up to twenty riders. Further announcements will be made as these riders are secured."

Statement from Team Sky

"Today brings an important milestone. Team Sky is a major project for British sport; a British Professional Cycling team built to take on the Tour de France," said Team Principal Dave Brailsford.

"We have a rider-centred philosophy so these are the people at its heart. It gives me huge satisfaction to announce these first riders. And as a British Team, I am proud that the first on our roster are British.

"They bring experience of the Tour de France, honours from the Olympics and World Championships, and exciting talent. We can help them continue to develop in this new environment and I know that they can help Team Sky take on the best on the road and win."

"We have put a lot of time and energy into identifying and recruiting riders who will fit the Team Sky ethos and performance principles. Their style and approach to racing will only enhance our prospects of encouraging a nation of people to get out and ride."

He concluded; "In the coming weeks and months they will be joined by other riders, from Britain and overseas. We will announce their new team-mates as and when we are able to. In the meantime, we will continue to respect all riders' arrangements with existing teams and only comment on the riders we have signed, as and when we do."

Announcment tommorow of an International Rider

So the six brits confirmed by sky today, ONE international rider being confirmed tommmoro.. This is starting to take the p155

Kashechkin will make his return at the Worlds, RR+TT, as his suspension ends the day before. Therefore he is looking for a team.

He will not sign for Kazakhastana most likely, as his relationship with Vinokourov has apparently gone very very sour.

Can somebody un-WTF the follwing for me:

Voici un extrait du document envoyé par la fédération du Kazakhstan à L'UCI en date du 8 avril 2008.

The Kazakhstan Cycling Federation (CFRK) has never received the documentation related to the counter analysis;

On 13 February 2008, Mr Andrey Kashechkin requested the Kazakhstan Cycling Federation to pronounce on his situation as athlete and his right to attend the cycling competitions;

The CFRK sent a letter to the UCI asking for the complete file concerning Mr Kashechkin. The letter has been received by UCI on 27 February 2008;

UCI has never answered to CFRK's request of documentation;

Now it is decided as follows:

The CFRK has not the elements necessary to start a doping proceeding against Mr.Andrey Kashechkin. Therefore Mr Andrey Kashechkin has no case to answer and is free to exercise any competitive activity.

But then we have this:
Kashechkin's suspension upheld
August 9, 2009

Kazakh Andrey Kashechkin lost an appeal Friday of his two-year suspension for doping a week after the suspension expired. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld his suspension issued by the International Cycling Union (UCI).

Did the CAS act on their own?
What is going on? :D

Sky: Few deals still outstanding, most have been agreed since earlier in the year. Some still not signed. Team leader still speculated to be Brad Wiggins if Contador goes to garmin (no shock there), negotiations under way. Training camp in manchester in november. First race Tour Down Under (no shock there), then looking for a wild card for the TdF..

Dave brailsford appearing on Sky Sports News in the next hour...

Complete let down so far.. Was expecting at least 20 riders..

In better news, Micheal Sheilds has finally been pardoned.. there is some justice in the world,.

Likely he said a "rounded" number. That's likely it from Columbia.

EDIT: wait, just remembered media have been bandying that Possoni's signed for Sky for a while now

Freire (33) announced that he'll quit cycling next year, when he's out of contract.

Het Nieuwsblad from EL Mundo...

Too bad he's always injured at the worlds. He could've beaten the record for World Championship wins if he'd won one more time. But since his last win in 2004 he didn't participate through injury in 2005, 2006 and 2007, in 2008 he rode injured, so didn't have a chance, and this year he no longer "has it".

He's clearly past it.

Couple questions...

1. Where the heck is BMC getting the funds to buy all these riders? Do they have a new sponsor? They have made almost as big a splash as Sky!!

2. We keep hearing about this 3 way deal with Wiggins and Contador. I wonder where Wiggins stands? Does he want to leave Garmin for Sky? Or is he happy where he is? I can't imagine him getting more support at Sky? Just curious as to what Wiggins wants!! Also, I guess Contador would take any team over Astana?

I think Morris Possoni will also join team sky from Columbia and will be the fifth rider. Not sure about a sixth as stated by Stapleton.

If you add in Flecha possibly, John-Lee Augustyn and a few others could be a good team. Peter Kennaugh has bags of potential.

What's his score this year? 2 wins in Romandie and 2nd on Montjuic in the Tdf....

So does that imply Theo Bos will move one team up? I haven't seen an indication that he's already ready for the highest level though...

He will move, yes, that's official.

He isn't ready, though.

Bos is even saying that if rabo won't form a lead-out train for him he might consider moving.
Maybe he should get some results first.

And I'm guessing guys like Nuyens, Clement, Langeveld and Posthuma wouldn't be happy in that role. A train with van Emden, de Maar, Tankink and Leezer or something like that wouldn't be competitive enough.
They would also lose all guys who usually do the work before the cameras ggo on.

sky update

20 further riders to be recruited (so roster size 26)
1 internastional rider announced tommoro

brailsford says "its been hard work, huge effort, blah blah blah had a strategy, certain results targeted, getting the riders was interesting, what is the mission, what races etc, and then put together a rider list with brits at the core.. the getting out and trying to get those riders, they have got the right people..."

and that my freinds.. is it.. :/

if sky sports and sky dont have more than that, i guess there is no more than that...

This is of course DB, the man who kept the team bikes for the olympics locked away where only two people had seen them, used them, and then destroyed them again after the oympics.. he doesnt let too much out..

(and sky really did build it up, said DB talking to us within the hour, by my reckoning DB appeared at 57 minutes, and said three sentances)

So basically this whole announcement has been a letdown, But from the riders that haven't been confirmed yet they sound like a very competitive young team.
