Wow. Vaughters got 2M pounds for Wiggins? Vaughters made out like a bandit. 2M for a rider who got lucky because there was no real climbing in the TdF.

The same Vaughters who rated Wiggins contract at 15M in one interview and said he would be "clinically insane" to sell it in another?

Yeah I would be surprised to see Wiggo crack the top 8 next year at the Tour. He better hope the tour lacks a Team Time Trial. If there is a cyclist worth $3.3 million it is not Wiggins.

No surprise there at all - but I though he could benefit his progress a bit more by remaining one more season with JV-but is clear that an "spaniard" is landing in the team where Bradley feels no desire to compete for leadership...

P.S.
I hope SKY gets the "medical program" to enhance Wiggo's new found cycling abilities...

+1. Second tier rider like a Leipheimer.

He is tier below Levi. The guy has finished in the top 5 at all three Grand Tours and has 3 Grand Tour podiums. Wiggo has finished in the top 5 at one multi stage race.

If Contador, who I assume would rather go to Caisse if it is possible, does not sign for Garmin then who does Garmin pick up instead? Evans wants to leave Lotto. Why not buy him?
They still have Christian Vande Velde who has finished in the Top 10 at the last two tours. He had a great ride this year considering the injury from the Giro.

Vaughters said in an interview (don't have a link) it's time to win the TDF. That means Contador. CVV will be a great team member.

Fair enough.

Is Lotto the problem or Evans? Evans seems like a head case to me.

I guess if Contador didn't go to Garmin, Evans might do.

The fact of the matter is there are really only three guys (Contador, Andy Schleck, and maybe Armstrong) with even a chance at the Tour next year and if you don't have one of them you don't stand much chance unless they eliminate all mountains from the Tour (wouldn't put it past them to do it).

Do we know this story is legit? So far the only place it's reported is the Daily Mail, seems weird that Sky News didn't break the news and no one else has picked it up. Even Velonews (AKA EverythingGarminNews) mentioned it.

Maybe Daily Mail and Guardian are trying to scoop Sky News. It certainly wouldn't be the first time that a competitor has let the cat out of the bag prematurely.

umm ye ok...

cause LA is a better climber then all the other GC contenders
his only hope is a TTT, a significant one.
The steeper the mountains, the less chance that old geezer has.

The TTT and weak climbs killed this years tour, it was too easy for astana to dominate.

Which is why I said maybe. Certainly will have the most support around him. I would say he was the 4th or 5th best climber in the Tour this year behind the Schlecks and Contador (and maybe Kloden).

Done deal. Told you. Full press release in next day or so or even in next few hours.

Garmin will have new kit with design assistance from Contador & a new sub sponsor. One breaking point still to be agreed is Girona. Alberto doesn't really want to move there as per team policy. Talk of setting up a center for cycing to cover off that point.

That would be a poor move.

Reeks of the separate-hotel-and-cars treatment of His Royal Hopeness this year in Astana. Easily leads to resentment from within the team, and accusations of doping and betrayal of ethos from without.

There are a body of fans who see signing Contador as Garmin being complicit in old-school preparation. If he's given the Girona leave pass, then those accusations will have more bite.

Hang on, if it is the team policy to live in Girona, then how the hell does Tyler Farrar still live in Belgium? He has said plenty of times that he lives not that far away from the Het Volk course. And Brad Wiggans still lives in England AFAIK.

All the best news break soooo late in the day!
Yes, The Hog is right, as the Guardian has printed.
Berto to Garmin.
I heard it from a good source, too, about a week ago.
Signing for Shackman's arch enemy, should bring a smile to the young Spaniard's face, as will the current rumours surrounding the Tour route.
Allegedly, it has more than the usual number of mountaintop
finishes!

Yep. AC should also be happy if the long TTT ( around 60k) will be confirmed.
With a team like Garmin,he's got a good chance to put time into the Shack even on this stage, let alone the rumoured 4 mountaintop finishes in the Pyrenees.
