He belongs to Silence who loaned him out to Topsport this season. However, his contract with Lotto also ends this December.

Tricky situation. Given how he jumped ship to Lotto after having ridden for QuickStep's youth and given QuickStep his word he'd ride for them as a Pro, I don't see how he'd have any qualms about jumping ship again to Columbia.

In my basic Spanish/Basque (please forgive me), that translate's to Romain Sicard who is 21 and rides for Continental team Orbea (and a Euskatel feeder team) will ride for Euskatel Euskadi for two seasons (2010 and 2011).

Correct?

What about Liquigas? Basso, Pelizotti, Nibali and Kreuziger cannot be a long term fit. There were some problems already this year. Is anyone's contract up so they could leave?

Contrary to what was reported a couple of weeks ago, Jan Bakelants (23) is currently linked to Silence-Lotto, who offered him a 2 year contract with an option for a third year.

He and his manager are trying to come to a solution in terms of getting out of the Topsport Vlaanderen-Mercator contract that still runs till 2010.
Source? (why do I even have to ask?)

- Rob Ruigh and Thomas Berkhout are stagiaires with Vacansoleil;
- Andrea Noé will ride another season (at 40 years old)

Ha, I read that too, isn't it amazing!! 40 years old, and still doesn't want to part with bike.

Gotta respect the "old man" :)

He's nowhere near his old quality, but to still be good enough for a ProTour team at that age is quite something

Ballan's quote was he's love to ride with Lance or something to that effect. Unless he's being offered a ton of money its the death of his career as he will have the same support at the classics as Hincapie did, namely none.

Radioshack? Why would he kiss his career goodbye? Goodbye classics.

I'd love to see Phinney the young, Leipheimer, Armstrong, Kloden and Horner assist him in PR...

Lance never did PR even in his pre-cancer classics riders days. Other than Phinney who I think won the amatuer PR this year none of the others ever rode it either. If Balln goes to radio shack its for the paycheck, unless he's truly gullible.

please sign rabo :D

The most credible rumour that has been doing the rounds for a while now is that Ballan has signed with Rabo to replace Flecha who will leave for Sky.

Hmm I saw him as an interesting addition to their 'classics' team, including Flecha, after this year's rather dull - in terms of results - Grand Opening of Cycling. But what you are saying makes sense though, that they are seemingly looking for a replacement...

sorry I get Versus so I'm of the impression there are people who would make that statement in all seriousness. I guess that makes me the gullible one.

Hmm, just saw that the only new teams that are intereseted in ProTour licences next year are Skil-Shimano, Radioshack and Team Sky. I wonder why Cervélo aren't interested in applying for a ProTour Licence. Is it some sort of strategy on their part or is the team to small to be elligible or something?

In the Cycling News report, there's talk of 21 candidates (all current PT teams plus the 3 you mention), and Pat McQuaid said it would be likely that 1 or 2 teams out of 21 will not get it.

The idea is to "raise the bar": I suppose this means you must come with a solid roster and some financial backing. If you're part of the PT, you have to run in PT events, thus have the means to do so.
Seems pretty clear the small teams will get the bad end of the stick there.

It may be too soon for Cervelo to make the jump, esp. with so many candidates.

They dont have the financial backing to become protour but its good cos they got entry to giro and tour
