I had never thought about it much but Simon Gerrans does a lot of the commentary for Australian TV and he said on stage 1 that UAE without Pog always lack something in the way of leadership that he brings and I guess he was correct.

I suspect that Soler also will only work for people he deems as worthy of him which is apparently a small list.

UAE generally lack leadership, tactics, strategy ... a bunch of things.

There was only Almeida left as valid gc option once Vine crashed wasn't it? McNulty always is too inconsistent and he's obviously not overly selfish.

It seemed to me Soler actually attacked as a rabbit for Ayuso though. So Kelderman & Valter are worn out earlier and Vingegaard, Roglic & Kuss need to figure out who works for who. I already felt like UAE not working the day before was to create controversy between the 3 Jumbo riders. Which was probably the only option to beat them for a podium spot.

So IMHO it wasn't as tactical inept as it seems. It actually worked out partially. At least the creation of controversy within Jumbo.

It only got contradicted completely with Ayuso being sick, being on 40/34 for the Angliru and Almeida being horse crap as a teammate like always. Frankly I don't know what Almeida's problem is. If I was his boss he might get a written warning after Wednesday!

To be the devils advocate;

Giro leadership was quite clear and structured from the start, compared to the vuelta I'd say.

The only reason for vuelta to have double leadership should be because Ayuso have been injured and Jumbo having dual leadership.

I think the Soler situation is just like the Kuss situation; something that wasn't planned. Soler himself said the other guys was better GC contenders than himself.

In the UAE pecking order Almeida probably is slightly above Ayuso this year because of Ayuso injuries, so I do see some structure where none seems to be.

The wild card now is Yates.

Ayuso and Almeida should ideally switch GT imo. Ayuso likes cold and rain and Almeida likes sun and warmth lol.

Dual leadership for those two are crazy.

Guys, this has nothing to do with anything, but I was not entertained enough by all Jumbo 1-2-3s and started to do random things, including reading old posts. Do you know that U.A.E is not an oil country by any means? So there is no such thing as oil money involved in cycling or in any other sport...

...according to Ryo Hazuki in a thread. And if you didn't agree, insults would soon follow, beautifully.

Reading his old posts is as entertaining as watching Marc Soler going punk or following all Jumbo politics. You can try it when cycling do wrong things to you.

Isaac del Toro now a confirmed signing. Interesting to see how he develops but I expect him to become a GC rider after his l'Avenir win.

UAE is really sweeping the Romance languages speaking talent in the last years. Almeida, Ayuso, Morgado, Del Toro all within their ranks and Marcos Freire (Oscar's son) was already on one of their training camps.
