I think they handed in their application, but the UCI just forgot about it. It was the same story. UCI tends to be a bit sloppy.

I like FDJ, Cofidis and Euskaltel, but one of those teams (probably French) aren't gonna be ProTour/WorldTour next season. Along with Vacansoleil.

Would prefer Lux or BMC to miss out, but that isn't gonna happen. And Geox have pretty much bought their place.

HTC, Liquigas and Telefonica are all solid.

MMS Team Colombia in the making.

Wednesday, October 6 | 09:15 | Team Colombia: "? excluded due to Colombian laws"

Colombia es Pasión-4/72-Café de Colombia have explained their temporary removal from the list of teams that have applied for a UCI Professional Team license. In an official Press Release the team reveals that in midstream between the demands of the UCI and Colombian law: being sponsored in part by public bodies, the team can not complete the documentation in full at the time because Colombian law does not allow public companies to act outside of the fiscal year, which follows quelloo solar. In other words, may not sign sponsorship commitments before year's end. The UCI is willing to facilitate and are looking for a solution of this case !

Colombia to host the World Champioships in 2015

UCI accepts the proposal of Colombia to host the Worlds Cycling in 2015. The federation is expected to meet with the national government to gain the support, and present their candidacy officially and in writing to the UCI.

At about 12 noon on Wednesday, Presidente Jorge Ovidio González of the [Col. cycling fed.] received the message from the UCI, in which it confirmed that the agency reserves Colombia to host the World Champioships in 2015.

"I met with Pat McQuaid in Australia, president of the UCI, and I made the verbal proposal. But I was careful to submit it in writing, I first needed to get the support of the Colombian government bodies, "said Gonzalez told El Tiempo.

The International Cycling Union (UCI) agreed with the proposal because it opens the possibility of this event in a country in Latin America, which has not been the case since 1995 when the World Cup held in Colombia.

Colombia is up against a lot of other countries to host Worlds 2015, but according to Colomia's national cycling czar González, "the possibility of hosting the World Cup is high, because the ICU was very satisfied with the performance of this same contest in 1995," Gonzalez said.

Indurain should've won the road race as well though. Although that would mean he would crack in the rainbow jersey. Fits in the curse myth.

Rooting for Colombia in 2015. They deserve it. Been around as a cycling nation for ages.

So, does this mean that points from continental circuits are also counting? Has the UCI finally seen sense?!

Yes, for the purpose of determining the team strength criterium for handling out PT licenses the continental tours count but in lesser extent than the PT.

Thanks. I guess for the normal 'world ranking' for 2011, they will just revert back to using protour/GT's etc and effectively ignore points earned by PT teams in continental events? (as stupid a system as it is!)

Ya, that's the impression I got from the latest press release. The difference won't be in the ranking but simply that GTs and historical events are once again bunched together with the other PT events. In practice the only difference from this year will be in regards to participation in those events. Now all events will be mandatory for the ProTeams instead of just the PT events like this year.

The UCI outlined six deadlines in 2010 for teams requesting a License in 2011.

1. An optional letter to the UCI indicating that a team is interested in becoming professional is due by the end of July.

The UCI Management Committee has tried to define the regulations for participation in the 2011 ! UCI World Calendar events for the UCI ProTeams. Organisers of Monument events. The UCI sincerely ultimately rejected that principle of the automatic participation of UCI ProTeams in their events..

2. A model of the bank guarantee and a model of the rider and staff contracts are due on August 1.

3. The period to sign riders will be between August 1 and October 20, whereby the points of each rider will decide the team ranking.

The rider values will be calculated on the basis of the UCI World Ranking, Continental Rankings, U23 Ranking, podium places in Grand Tours and victories in the most important events (World Calendar, HC Class, Classes 1 and 2, Continental Championships, National Championships and World Championships).

4. All teams must send an official request for inscription for either ProTour or Professional Continental by August 15.

In terms of the registration schedule, on 20 November each year the UCI will announce the list of teams to which UCI ProTour licences will be awarded. The list of teams registered in the second division will also be announced on this date. If these lists leave some team places left to be announced, the names of the final teams to be awarded licences will be published in definitive lists on 10 December. Wild card status will no longer exist.

5. Payment of the registration fee is due on September 1.

6. All documents including the original bank guarantee, sponsor contracts, rider and staff contracts and budget compensation are due on October 1.
