But all these names were picked from the BP hat, 2 months ago, correct? That would entail it includes people whose performance dropped over the last 2 months/wasn't up to par, because they are/were under investigation...

Who is the Russian? Efimkin? Petrov, Klimov, Ignatiev, Trofimov; Valjavec for the Slovenians, or Spilak, Stangelj? The Spanish could be anyone ;)

Still don't think it can be pellizotti... Why would he recon Giro stages, if he knows they are releasing the news about now. I mean, wouldn't UCI inform them before making the announcement?

Bruseghin isn't a bad shout actually, though Caisse haven't had a positive in a long long time despite a fair few links (Moreno, Sánchez, Valverde) and some less-than-convincing transfer policy (Plaza, Zaballa, Cobo). And his 3rd at the 2008 Giro, with a not too dissimilar route, is one of those results that were suspect.

Other well-known Slovenes in the pro péloton:
BOZIC, Borut (Vacansoleil Pro Cycling Team)
BRAJKOVIC, Janez (Team RadioShack)
GOLCER, Jure (De Rosa-Stac Plastic)
KOCJAN, Jure (CarmioOro-NGC)
KUMP, Marko (Adria Mobil)
STRGAR, Matic (Vorarlberg-Corratec)

Bozic did well early in the season, and then... nothing.

If it's either Basso, Scarponi or Garzelli it'll be end of their careers, right? 2nd offense is 8 year ban, no?

I too bet it's Ballan.

He's high profile and his former Lampre team-mate Santambrogio just

got absolved by BMC - but not so Ballan ...
No way ballan. he won't be at the giro.

Tuttobici now says five to eight riders: "a Russian, two Spaniards, a Slovenian and probably two Italians. One of these has no plans to race the Giro."

Susan

Menchov (no plans to ride giro)
Sastre
Moreno
Garzelli
Pellizotti

Susy Wetemeyer (good work again)

Pellizotti's odds have gone out a bit
From 3.75 to 4.75

Does that indicate anything?

Basso's have shortened

Geography

:p
no it's ethnography but i gotta admit it can be confusing as most forumites were just born when they became separate countries.

it is def not basso or cunego then as they did not ride the 2009 tour de france. it is probably ballan as he was due to ride and this investigation seems to be linked to the lampre scandal

Not too may Spaniards in the Giro (and 1 of 2 will/would be doing the Giro, for certain according to the release?), at least on the preliminary startlist. I doubt it'll be a big name...

Maybe ballan is the one who is the one who is caught but not riding the giro?

He is following the successful strategy of just going on as if nothing is happening, winning good races, and acting like there's no case against him. He'll be Valverde's apprentice.

One of the Italians has no plans to ride the Giro. And the other rode last year's Tour, and has ambitions for this year's Giro. It's only been said twenty times already.
