This is what I was thinking. If N1no retires, Scott will be looking for a top name, maybe one with a gold medal.
A Worlds, or Olympic Gold medal??
I wonder if there is some traction in this, as I've seen this mentioned elsewhere by a few different people. It seems unlikely going on all evidence.

XC Marathon World Championship, this weekend, Snowshoe. Haven't yet seen an entry list. I think we can expect the usual shocking 'non' coverage.......
All I can see on the official website is alist of the American riders, pathetic.
Edit: found one on ESMTB, can't seem to copy, but probably me.

More 'changes' planned for MTB racing.......

A lot to take in, putting aside the impact on the sport generally for a moment, perhaps too difficult for my brain.
The apparent difficulty for top multi didipline riders to hop in and out looks a concern.
Even when the rider belongs to an established team it might be difficult, Sam Gaze isn't currently in top 15 ranked team.
Pidcock who is not even in a MTB team will have to rely on the 'profile of an individual athlete ' clause and even then not allowed to enter until four weeks before.

Whether MTB fans like it or not, the multi discipline riders bring extra interest, especially from road media like CyclingNews, who for long periods of time don't bother with MTB.
WB/Discovery/ UCI should be trying to make it easier for these riders to actually race at MTB World Cups......
I did think all WT/ WWT should be allowed a X number of multi discipline riders in addition to the normal roster - to encourage multi discipline riders - but it's probably not workable, and very few teams would be interested.

Junior XCO World Champion, Albert Philipsen racing the ITT in Zurich - and it's live to watch. Unlike the Junior XCO, which received no coverage at all.
MTB really doesn't help itself, with the poor coverage it's organisers provide.

You know the 2023 MTB reform has been a success when there is the need to do another reform 2 years later.

As per the changes, tldr. MTB World Cups were great under Red Bull, now they've put them behind a paywall and create dull things that no one cares.

Like, career numbers for a rider in downhill? Specific numbers are great when there are dozens of athletes racing against each other under chaotic conditions (MotoGP, F1, Motocross, peloton riding). Downhill is one rider at a time, most of the time filmed head on. What do I care if Tahnee Seagrave is number 446561 if her name is right in front of me in the coverage?

I see many comparisons from Downhill MTB fans (particualrly on Pinkbike, Vital MTB) to MX, SX, etc
The actual sports they need to be compared to, are similar 'time trial' type sports.....So Downhill ski-ing, rallying, moto Enduro.....not F1, MotoGP, Supercross, etc

However, I suppose the career numbers are for selling merchandise, that's the usual reason for it.

Yeah, it doesn't look totally inspiring - but I'll wait until the races to see if it produces decent racing. However, we do need to see a mix of different courses, and they can't all be Nove Mesto or Mont Saint Anne.

In other news, Savillia Blunk has extended for another 2 years at Decathlon-Ford.
