Thanks janraaskalt

Purito Rodriguez gave forfait for worlds just now cause he is to tired and will be replaced by Ruben Plaza.

José Ivan Gutierrez will replace Plaza in the ITT.

What's your source?

Is Vino going to the WC?
I thought he said earlier this year that he wanted to beat Canc in the TT at the WC?

I'm pretty sure CN reported that he was going to miss it. The Asian Games TT was going to be his last race or something.

Shame only the 3, Venezuela get 6.

The start list is a joke but what can anybody expect. There must be a 100 quality riders sitting at home while club riders compete at the Worlds.

Forgot to tell, who I think will have the best chance to become World Champion, Alexandre Kolobnev.

Not being a native speaker, I have never understood the meaning of the word "tool" (in its deprecating sense) until it was mentioned with respect to Kolobnev in top-tier escape groups. Bettini in Salzburg or Vino in LBL, same drama with the predictability of a greek tragedy.
It makes you root for him all the more, though.

I see the nuke negotiations are broadening in scope.
Joke about them all you want, the Iranians are actually all pretty strong cyclists, dominating many of the Asian races.
They even gave many europeans a hard time when they showed up at Qinghai Lake. Just ask Maarten Tjallingii or Tyler Hamilton about Mizbani and Askari for instance.
Unfortunately they got little race intelligence and the worlds are completely out of their season, so they usually start without form or any decent preperation.

Some Pro Tour and Pro Continental teams should really do some more scouting there and develop those riders. Potential is definately there

Should be about 20 C going on this weeks forecast, no more then 22-23 C

Little to no chance of rain over the entire event

Obviously going for a sprint finish.

Tom Peterson can be a surprising long shot but can't say how he'd finish against a small group with quick guys. This is the most cohesive setup they've had in awhile and it has options...

Visa restrictions mean they can't do much racing outside of Asia. Otherwise they'd be there already.:)

like if it ever rains in the land of the aussies anyway

Head to the Northern states in January. It doesn't stop raining. Monsoon season. Rains every day. Enough water to supply the entire country for years. They need to starting piping it South to the populated areas.

The end of September and beginning of October often sees rain. It has rained on the long weekend in most of the Eastern states for the past 5 years. That is when the WC are on. Odds are it will rain this year, maybe not all day, but some showers should be expected. It has rained well all winter, now it is spring and the start of spring in recent years has had some wild weeks. Last year they were late October, the year before early October and the year before that late September. Wild weather should be anticipated and prepared for. Only a fool will turn up with the sole expectation of lots of sunshine.

Oh and one more thing. Last year this time in September was extremely hot. Heat wave lasted for 10 days. This time of year has been fluctuating for the last decade. We get heat in the beginning or middle of Spring and then it drops, then the rain comes. We have had neither this year. Alternatively it reverses. But rest assured, we have been getting both in varying order, for the past 5 years. Normal weather ain't guaranteed...it could tip either way. Hot, wet or normal. I'm hoping hot personally, because the Europeans won't like it as much. Hot by my standards is 35 degrees celsius and higher. 30 ain't hot, it is above warm. If Geelong is anything like Penrith/Richmond and Windsor in NSW, then if the heat comes, humidity could hit close to 60% and higher. That would make the race awesome. Pray it doesn't happen. Geelong is close to the coast, thus humidity needs to be considered as well. Exerting energy in medium to high humidity is Australia is about 3 times harder than normal.

@Galic, I agree with most of what you describe, but it definitely won't be hot in Melbourne &/or Geelong during the Worlds. It's way too early in the season for heat. The warmest you could anticipate is 25-26 deg C, and that's very unlikely. It's much more likely to be around 20 deg, if not cooler.

Its actually been flooding down here recently. The Murray, Loddon, Goulburn, Avoca & Edwards Rivers have all flooded in the last month or so.

Central Victoria has had 200% of their average rainfall to this stage of the year.

---------------

Anyways the forecast for the Course Familiarisation Day is a low of 8*C high 16*C with a 50% chance of less then 1ml.

Winds should be between 23-29km/h in the SW/W direction.

I will update the forecast as the days draw closer if people are interested, don't know if those sort of winds will cause any headaches but it certainly won't be very warm.

*edit* Humidity is expected to be 65-75% for that day.

How is the humidity been lately? If humidity is above 30 or 40 percent and the temperature hits in the mid 20s like you suggest then it will be the equivalent to physically exerting oneself in 35 degree celsius weather.

The Spring weather cycles are totally random. People need to watch consecutive weather over a weekly period. If it temperatures rise over a couple of days, odds are they will stay there. Worse, they can suddenly shift to the opposite end of the spectrum and rain non stop. Part of the reason why Spring is my favourite season. Great temperature for the most part.

I did however have to open my window whilst sleeping last night. I hope weather does play up so the Aussies riding have improved chances. Not sure that will bother the Spaniards or Italians though if it heats up. Should take care of the rest though. If it is wet that would help Kolobnev and Gilbert. I'm hoping for close to 30C and some sickening humidity. I think from memory, 30C is roughly just over 90F for those using the other system of measurement.

Somone also said all they see on tv is desert and fires. What have you been watching? Australia is the largest isolated land mass in the world. We're surrounded by 3 major oceans. Beaches everywhere. Only Hawaii, the Maldives, Southern Sri Lanka and perhaps Fiji can boast surf and beaches like we have. We win because we have quality and quantity. Look at the world surfing ranks...tons of Aussies. Over 80% of the population live in close vacinity to the coast, well away from the deserts in the middle of the country. You've been watching all the wrong things. Sun, surf and sand is the real fun part. Downside is we have Salt Water Crocodiles in abundance, sharks galore and 7 of the 10 deadliest snakes in the world. We have the top 4...so don't go near a Fierce Snake, Taipan, Tiger Snake or Death Adder and you'll be fine. Don't swim in open water in the north of Australia either...crocs might feel like a bite and eat you. Don't worry, all the locals carry foot long machetes like Crocodile Dundee and are well versed in Croc wrestling...might come in handy if Geelong does go under in a deluge of rain.

As far as the weather goes we haven't hit 20 degrees once this month, I think we touched on 19 a week or so ago. Next weeks forecast is top of 20 each day with showers expected.

I'm hoping for some wind on the day which will really rip things to pieces.

Right now at 4.20pm it's 13 degrees outside.

Damn...that is low. I love cold weather as much as I love hot weather. What the hell is happening in Victoria? This time last year it was warm...warm enough to start bush fires. I live in one of the colder areas of NSW and it is hitting mid 20s every day. Scrap my idea that we might see a temperature spike that hits the low 30s. Sounds like cold to warm with rain. Lovely...crashes.

Coldest and wettest weather for 13 years they say (I have only lived here for 4).

I would say the chances of the temperature being 30 degrees by next weekend are slim to none, be hard pressed getting to 22.

Check out this link for weather averages during September.

Link says the humidity is 59%. Lovely, all the Aussie team needs now is an additional 10 degrees. 26 or 27C with 60% humidity will sap most other teams down leaving less workers and more struggle for their designated leader. Common mother nature!
